  • The 42cast Episode 235: Podcasting is Magic

The My Little Pony franchise has been around for a long time and has spawned many animated series. In this episode we discuss the Friendship is Magic installment, which lasted from 2010 to 2019. As arguably the most successful incarnation of My Little Pony we examine why that might be. We discuss the characters and why they create interesting hooks for the audience. We talk about the mythology of the series how that interweaves with themes of conflict resolution, mental health, and social situations. We also get into the brony phenomenon, masculine expectations, and why this incarnation of a traditionally girl-focused series may also appeal to boys. Along the way we get into Star Trek crossovers, ponies-as-humans, and “hot” cartoons.

This week’s five-minute controversy asks if it was a good idea to release Wonder Woman 1984 straight to streaming.

This week Beth along with newcomers, Chris and Tina, join the cast.

  • Flopcast 679: The Dove Above – Our Anniversary Spectacular

Flopcast episode 679! It’s the 13th anniversary of the Flopcast! We started this nonsense way back in 2012 (as court-ordered community service, but let’s not get into that), and here we are today, as dizzy and confused as ever. And to celebrate, we’re doing… not much of anything. Kevin and the Mayor just wander through a few quick little subjects, including: Running a half marathon in Maine; running a 5K in the rain; a visit to the Watch City Steampunk Festival, ruled by our friend Queen Jessica Mercy; the return of our favorite metal band, Anaria; an important ornithological discovery right here at the studio; the Columbo-style antics of Natasha Lyonne on Poker Face; and a pile of new “facsimile” comic books, which allow us to enjoy the first Aquaman story without spending eight zillion dollars. Now it’s on to yet another year of Flopcasting. We promise to continue accomplishing nothing.

  • Sault Steelers Football Needs You!

Sault Steelers football needs you and your help. For this episode of the Have Coffee Will Travel podcast, Shawn and Leah go on location to meet with some of the players. The Steelers are in need of fresh blood for their team roster. The team is looking for sponsors. Running a team is an expensive endeavour. While the team has a few sponsors already, they are in need of more. They reached out to HCWT to help spread the word. On this episode, we sit down for a lengthy chat. We’re talking team history, legacy, money, fun and so much more.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SAULT STEELERS:

The Sault Steelers are a semi-professional football team based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, established in 1972. Len Monico, the team’s first head coach, spearheaded its formation and led the team to immediate success, winning the Northern Football Conference (NFC) title and a National Championship in its inaugural season.

The franchise has continued to achieve success, earning Canadian Major Football League (CMFL) National Championships in 2007, 2009, and 2010 and numerous NFC league titles.

They have also produced countless notable players, including 20-time NFC All-Star and 1-time MVP Brandon Lewis, NFC All-Time leading rusher Josh Gauthier, 2007 NFC Defensive Player of the Year Gordi Campbell, and NFC Hall of Famers Stu Waite and Rocky DiPietro, among others.

The Steelers were founding members of the Ontario Power 5 Football League (OP5FL), where they have competed since 2024.

Also on this episode, we talk about our Etsy shops and some recent sales. We go behind the storefront to tell you about how Etsy operates and the fees we can incur as a result of using this platform. Have you heard of ‘offsite ads’? They are devious and expensive. And remember, Sault Steelers football needs you!
