“Shaping culture” sounds like an old person's game, but culture comes from the accumulation of attitudes from everybody in any group, and it is largely Sophie Fawn's attitude that has got her to be a superstar netball in Australia's top competition. A country girl from Wagga Wagga, her journey to Suncorp Super netball was rife with challenges - Traveling to Sydney from Wagga was tough, but add to that some of her most formative years were during covid-19 lockdown, then in the middle of her HSC her mother - Maureen - died from ovarian cancer. Thriving in tough situations seems to be just how Sophie rolls, but in just keeping her head down and concentrating on the next step in front of her, she is doing more than she probably realises in shaping the culture of Australian netball.
