The Exegesis Audio Transcriptions

First: an analysis of the various facets of the title of the novel (crying, lot, and the number 49) including their older and newer readings and a more obscure reference held within it. Second: an analysis of the name Oedipa Maas through four different lenses and the way in which they all coalesce.

On top of this, 49 is in reference to the forty-niners of the California Gold Rush. The year 1849 was the peak of this gold rush where the lands of California (also where the novel takes place) were plundered and raped for profit with no regard to what this would entail. Given many characters throughout this novel are either committing a similar atrocity via acts such as real estate development or weapons manufacturing (i.e. the building of various lots), we are seeing a new ‘gold rush’ occur in the American 1960s.

Continuing my new more in depth musings on the early chapters of Gravity’s Rainbow. Talking more in depth here about Pirate’s dream of the end of the world and his place in the grand plot that is to emerge.

Sending this one out as a free audio post and will eventually change it. But I wanted all subscribers to know that this is something I’m doing now. Basically, if you didn’t see the last one, I started these because I find some of my early analyses of Gravity’s Rainbow to be mildly lackluster and just not as in depth as my later writing. So, I’m going for a more free form podcast style thing where I don’t have to dedicate so much time to writing and editing and can just ramble for a while. These will definitely have more depth but maybe less refinement since they’re unedited. It will be a feature for paid subs going forward. All regular postings will of course remain free.
