The Exiles Network

Today we have a special podcast with the award-winning "The Reasons I'm Broke" podcast. We delve into a 9-part discussion about the fight between directorial creative freedom and risk-averse producer control. We take a deep and very philosophical dive into why artist integrity is important, especially in the largest movies, and how the attempt to "elevate the bottom" so to speak has been repeatedly shot down by studios and audiences. Strap in, this is a long one but I think it is a very riveting discussion that you will surely have an opinion about. If you do, please let us know in the comments or on our socials. I feel it is a worthwhile discussion to have.

One of the hottest anime to take the 2023 anime season by storm was "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End". It is a story about a nigh-immortal elf who has already finished her hero's journey and now roams the world collecting magical items and learning about humans. The story has been praised for its subtle and restrained take on the Shonen/Fantasy category. I can't help myself but have a little bit of a contrary take on it but as always I do my best to articulate what I think the truth about the anime is and why. A returning guest, "Kranberri Jam" who appeared on the Yuuki Yuna podcast is accompanying me. If you have seen the anime or read the manga I am really curious about what you think. Sometimes I feel crazy for having the opinion that I do.

Welcome to a special episode of The Exiles Network!

On September 30th 2023 I posted an essay entitled "Pop Culture Wars". The essay is a post-mortem on the state of pop culture through the lens of what I believe to be a battle of narrative between at least two large Hollywood studios. I thought that this would be a great place to get back into journalism as it includes some of my personal story around pop culture. I brought Manu back and also Dan from The Reasons I'm Broke Podcast to discuss the contents of the essay.

The Narrated Essay is exclusive for Patrons and you can read the written article on my Substack.

Hey, this is Millennial Mike! Welcome to season 2 of the podcast (technically this is episode 2 but I have not got around to editing episode 1 yet).

In this episode we talk about the Daily Wire production starring defamed actress Gina Carano, Terror on the Prairie. My hosts are the intellectual Dustin and the distinguished Kevin the Critic.

You likely have not read many reviews of this film nevertheless heard any podcasts about it, if you were even made aware of the film itself. The circumstances of the films creation are admittedly rife with controversy which we thought would be a perfect opportunity for the Exiles to discuss the movie, the actual movie. We hope to release more TXN Podcast content in the future along with the normal scheduled Ronin Council content. Enjoy!

I (Millennial Mike) and Dan from The Reasons I'm Broke are kicking off the season with the most hotly anticipated movie of the year, Morbius! In all seriousness, there are things to say about the movie and none of them are in meme format. Have you seen the movie? Let us know what you thought about the new cape movie starring Jared Leto.

This episode was also stacked with a lot of great new and discussion about the latest shows. One of the parts that I found particularly interesting was the segment where we spoke about analysts talking about the rise of manga's popularity. I also had fun in our anime discussion gushing about Shikimori's Not A Cutie. This show has turned me into a hopeless romantic.
