The Expansive Therapist episodes

  • Creative Parts, Self-Expression, and the Art of Therapy

What would you create if you didn't need anyone to approve of it, understand it, or pay you for it?

Get in Expansive Therapists, we're rebuilding our relationship with creativity....

In this episode of The Expansive Therapist, we're exploring the art of therapy, the protective parts that keep us from creating, and what happens when we give ourselves permission to create simply because we want to.

    We'll explore:

    • Why creativity is so much bigger than art
    • How the act of doing therapy is already VERY CREATIVE!
    • The hidden cost of disconnecting from our creative selves
    • The parts that fear judgment, failure, and unproductive time
    • Simple ways to reconnect with creativity, curiosity, and play

  • The Witch Wound, Money, & Reclaiming Your Power (Part 2) with Elizabeth Scott

Welcome to Part 2! If you didn't listen to Part 1, go back and do that...

What if your discomfort with charging for your work isn't actually about money?

What if the part of you that questions your intuition, feels uncomfortable being visible, or needs just one more certification before you can trust yourself is carrying something much older than you realize?

And what if some of those fears aren't even yours?

In part two of our conversation on the witch wound, Elizabeth Scott and I are going DEEP into the ways historical persecution of women healers may still be showing up in our lives and businesses as therapists.

We're talking about money (because OF COURSE we are), the ways we've been conditioned to value intellectual knowledge over intuitive wisdom, and why receiving compensation for our healing work can feel so complicated.

And listen, we're not suggesting you throw evidence-based practice out the window and start prescribing moon water.

But we are asking what happens when we become so focused on credentials, protocols, and doing therapy the "right" way that we lose touch with one of our most powerful tools: ourselves.

We also get into the astrology of this moment, including Venus retrograde and its connection to money, worth, and the feminine. And then I take us into the massive Human Design shift happening in 2027, when we collectively move from the Cross of Planning into the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix.

Which, if you ask me, has some pretty fascinating implications for how we might live, work, and practice therapy moving forward.

And because we don't want to leave you with a whole bunch of things to unpack and absolutely no idea what to DO with them, we're sharing some of our favorite practices for exploring and healing the witch wound.

    Inside this episode, we're exploring:

    • Why charging for intuitive, relational, and healing work can feel more vulnerable than charging for something backed by a certification
    • The ancestral, cultural, and professional legacy burdens that might be influencing your relationship with money
    • How the devaluation of caregiving shows up in the therapy profession
    • What Venus retrograde is inviting us to revisit around worth, power, and the feminine
    • The 2027 Human Design shift and what it could mean for therapists who are ready to do things differently
    • Why trusting your own therapeutic expression matters more than ever
    • Our personal energy-clearing rituals between client sessions (including some things we definitely didn't learn in grad school)
    • How to honor your natural cycles rather than forcing yourself into constant productivity
    • Using IFS and legacy unburdening to explore fears around visibility, money, and taking up space

Here's something I really want you to consider:

How much of what you're carrying around money, visibility, and trusting yourself actually belongs to you?

And how much of it might be something you inherited, absorbed, or learned along the way?

You don't need to figure it all out today. But perhaps there's an opportunity to start getting curious.

Because maybe the next evolution of therapy isn't about learning another modality.

Maybe it's about remembering how to trust the healer you already are.

  • The Witch Wound: What We're Still Carrying as Therapists (Part 1) with Elizabeth Scott

Season 1 Episode 4: The Witch Wound & Therapists

*cue the music* must be the season of the witch...

Q: What do the European witch trials, your fear of being visible online, and your discomfort with charging for your gifts have in common?

A: WAY more than you think

In this episode of The Expansive Therapist, I'm joined by therapist, healer, astrologer, and all-around magical human Elizabeth Scott for the first part of a juicy conversation about the witch wound and how its legacy may still be shaping the way we show up as therapists, healers, and business owners.

We're going way back (like, 500 years back) to explore the history of the witch hunts, the persecution of women and healers, and the cultural and generational burdens that may still be living in our systems today.

And we're connecting some pretty fascinating dots along the way.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • The history of the European witch trials and how women, healers, and their communities were impacted.
    • What the witch wound actually is and why it matters for modern-day therapists.
    • How cultural and legacy burdens can show up as perfectionism, self-doubt, fear of visibility, and discomfort with making money.
    • The tension between evidence-based practices and trusting our intuition, embodiment, and other ways of knowing.
    • Why doing things differently in the therapy world can feel so threatening (and why therapists sometimes turn on each other).
    • How the witch wound may influence our relationships with other women, collaboration, and community.
    • Why reclaiming our gifts doesn't have to mean forcing ourselves into visibility before our systems feel ready.
    • The astrological significance of Venus retrograde in Scorpio and its connection to reclaiming feminine power.

This conversation isn't about throwing out everything we've learned as therapists. It's about getting curious about what we've been taught to exile, suppress, or distrust in ourselves.....and what might become possible when we begin to reclaim it.

And perhaps most importantly, you don't have to force your way through any of it. You get to move at the pace of your own system.

This is part one of a two-part conversation. In part two, we'll dive deeper into the witch wound and money, ancestral healing, rituals for reclamation, and the fascinating connection to the 2027 Human Design shift.

If you've ever felt the tug for MORE in your work but also felt parts that have said, that's not safe, this episode is for you.

  • Trends in Therapy October 2026

Season 1 Episode 3: The Trends I'm Seeing in Therapy Right Now....

The ~Therapy Space~ is changing so rapidly and so I'm using my Projector eyes to just name the trends that I'm seeing and planning to do this on a monthly basis.

The three trends I noticed are: More therapy intensives, therapists overwhelmed and ghosting or constantly canceling on clients and clients using AI between sessions.

In this episode I breakdown the whys, the what we can dos and the growing edges for our field.

Consider this episode the place to tap in to what is happening in our field without having to get into a heated comment debate about on instagram.

  • What I would do if I was starting my therapy business from scratch in 2026 (as a Projector in Human Design)

Season 1 Episode 2: What I would do if I was starting my therapy business from scratch in 2026 (as a Projector in Human Design)

There are 7 things I would do FOR SURE if I was starting all the way over with my business.

    Here they are:

    1. Create my business around my capacity and not what i saw everyone else doing - BIGGEST piece of importance as a projector
    2. Figure out my legit income needs, goals & desires and not— “what is someone willing to pay me?” or what am I worth?
    3. Start a newsletter/ email list. You need a place to have conversations with people that have opted in to your work, that isn’t going to disappear tomorrow.
    4. Be more clear about who I wanted to help but also steer away from the formulaic I help _ do _ so they can ___
    5. Work with my people pleasing part wayyyyy sooner
    6. Immediately start supervision ( I did start like 6 months in but I would’ve started ASAP)
    7. Work with a biz coach who gets the ethical components therapists have to deal with outside of the biz world

THE NEW PODCAST IS HERE! SAY HELLO TO THE EXPANSIVE THERAPIST 🦋

Season 1 Episode 1: Goodbye Return, Hello Expansive Therapist (and why the change?)

If you've been here a while you know that I follow wild 2 am whispers that make no sense at the time but later on turn out to be some of the most aligned changes in my life.

The call to change the direction, intention and name of the podcast came once again out of the blue in the middle of the night for *seemingly* no reason at all.

In this episode I share more about the change, the reasons behind selecting The Expansive Therapist as the name, my going away letter to Return and so much more.

I also share my manifesto for The Expansive Therapist, a calling for us to take up space as therapists and to expand into wild unknowns.

Welcome to the last episode 3/3 in the Liminal Space: Grief Series [Season 1.5 the-in-between].

This is a special series that explores the space between life and death, one project and another, who you were and who you are becoming, etc.

This last episode in the series is about the gifts I've found so far on my grieving journey.

The gifts are: connection, presence and perspective and each one comes with a story and example from my own life.

Grief is deeply painful but if we are courageous enough to be with it, we will be rewarded.

  • The Liminal Space of Loss & Letting Go [Season 1.5 the-in-between]

welcome to the space between podcasts....

This is no longer Return but it isn't the new podcast yet either.

This short 3 episode season 1.5 explores the space between things.

Where loss and letting go are embraced as part of the journey.

In this first episode I'm sharing with you my shoebox of things I've lost but never *actually* grieved and identities that I stepped in to but never *actually* let go of.

I had every intention of releasing the new podcast this week until last week I was wide awake at 1 am and I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I also got a wild 1 am whisper that told me to include a voicemail from my dad who passed in April, as a creative offering of my own grief, to share with you.

I hope you enjoy this creative expression of the liminal space of loss and letting go, straight from my own metaphorical internal closet and now out into the light.

    Thank you for being here.

    I adore you.

  • Human Design for Therapists: Ethics, Career, Sacral Authority + the 2027 Shift

Episode 121: Human Design for Therapists: Ethics, Career, Sacral Authority + the 2027 Shift

It’s the end of an era: this is officially the last episode of the Return Podcast before the show gets a new name, a new look, and a whole new chapter.

And for our final episode as Return, we’re going deep into one of my favorite subjects: Human Design for Therapists.

I’m answering questions submitted by Return+ subscribers and exploring what it actually looks like to use Human Design as a tool for self-understanding, decision-making, business, and even therapeutic work....without turning your chart into another set of rules about who you’re supposed to be.

We talk about whether Human Design can tell you what career you should have, the biggest mistake I see therapists make with their charts, and the ethical considerations therapists need to think about before bringing Human Design into work with clients.

I also get into the bigger Human Design questions: What exactly is happening in 2027 with the shift into the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix? What does it mean if the Sleeping Phoenix is your incarnation cross? What do you do as a Generator when your sacral response feels quiet? And what the hell do single, split, triple split, and quadruple split definitions actually mean?

Plus, I share something I've changed my mind about after years of working with Human Design—and why I think your chart becomes much more interesting when you stop asking it to tell you what to do and start using it to experiment with how you are actually designed to move through the world.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • Can Human Design tell you what career you should have?
    • Why your Authority and Incarnation Cross can offer insight without prescribing your path
    • The biggest Human Design mistake I see therapists making
    • How Human Design can become another tool for self-judgment—and what to do instead
    • Can therapists ethically use Human Design with clients?
    • Informed consent, scope of practice, clinical competence, and avoiding determinism
    • Why Human Design should be used as a lens, not a truth
    • Why a Human Design chart cannot diagnose trauma, ADHD, anxiety, or other clinical concerns
    • How I think about combining Human Design with IFS
    • What Human Design says is happening in 2027
    • The shift from the Cross of Planning into the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix
    • What the Sleeping Phoenix represents: individuality, inner authority, transformation, and authentic self-expression
    • What it means if the Sleeping Phoenix is your Incarnation Cross
    • How Generators can strengthen their relationship with their sacral response
    • What to do when your sacral feels quiet or unclear
    • Single vs. split vs. triple split vs. quadruple split definition
    • What I’ve changed my mind about after doing hundreds of Human Design readings
    • Why I moved away from one-off readings and toward deeper containers
    • Using your design to create a business that actually fits you, rather than copying what other therapists are doing
