So how have Republicans managed to maintain their grip on political power? The answer is alarmingly simple: Voter Suppression. Concerted public policy geared towards restricting access to the polls during each and every election. • Watch Whiteness Work: Amy Coney Barrett is Set To Be A Supreme Court Justice
Being white in America means being the least qualified person in the room but having the most prestigious-and most senior position. Positions that Blacks and people of color have to be routinely over- qualified and supremely educated for. Ms. Barrett has only two years experience in private practice, has never tried a case nor argued an appeal, and only became a judge for the first time in 2017. A Black woman or a woman of color in Ma. Barrett’s position would have to have twice the qualifications just to secure a position of senior partner at large law firm. Aside from the implications of what a majority Conservative Supreme Court means for working class and Black people in America, what else does Ms. Barrett’s astrominical rise to the most powerful court on the planet mean for advancing the goals and agenda of white supremacy.

  • Is it a Conservative Value to Suppress the Rights of People
Today, people are self-governed. That means we elect or choose our leaders. In Biblical times, God appointed leaders by speaking through Prophets and directing them to whom to appoint. God doesn’t speak through prophets today to dictate the choice of leaders. People choose their leaders. Is it a right to choose our leaders? Who declared conservativeness as a human value that is better than any other? And that that said value is ordained and sanctioned by God? The values of faith, family, love of country and worship of God are human values, not confined to conservatism. Using conservativeness to suppress people’s rights to abortion, and choosing a partner is the suppression of human rights. Just like using conservativeness to defend voter suppression is the suppression of people’s rights to choose a leader. God has nothing to do with that.

It’s twelve days to the November 2020 elections and our nerves are fraught with so many plays on how the election could turn out. What if Trump is re-elected? What if Biden wins? What will it mean for Black Americans and racial violence if white supremacy gains ground in the white house. So many ways that this could play out it’s nerve-wracking but what about our own lives and our what if scenarios? Are we playing to win?
