  • Confessions of a Fat Rideshare Driver (Rerun)

    Originally aired in December 2018.

Brittney is a fat rideshare driver, and she LOVES it–she meets tons of friendly, interesting riders. She also gets a few creeps. On today’s show she’s talking about her experience driving strangers around in her car. And this is Part 1 of 2! Brittney had so many funny stories and helpful insight that I needed two episodes to get it all in!

  • The Tragic Life and Death of Mama Cass

The world thinks Cass Elliott died choking on a ham sandwich. They’re wrong.

In today’s episode I’m talking about the tragic life and death of Cass Elliott, known to most of us as “Mama Cass.” Cass was an early, unwitting fat lib icon, but she spent her whole adult life desperate to become thin. That desperation eventually killed her.

  • Anne: A Fat Queen but No One’s Favourite

I saw The Favourite, but it never even occurred to me that Queen Anne was fat (either in portrayal or in real life.) That is until my friend Ross brought this article by Anna Leszkiewicz in the New Statesman to my attention. Now I can’t stop thinking about this fat queen and the mythology of fat people throughout history.

  • How to Find a Fat-Friendly Doctor

I posted on Instagram recently that I finally found a fat-friendly doctor, and I got so many questions asking for recommendations. If you’re in Austin and looking for a doctor, I have a name for you! But if you’re not, I can at least tell you how I found mine. On this episode of the pod I’m telling you every step I took and resource I used to find a fat-friendly doctor so that you can find one in your own town.

  • Royal Jelly by Roald Dahl–A Creepy Story Reading

In honor of Halloween, I’m reading Roald Dahl’s short story “Royal Jelly” on the pod today!

Note: It’s incredibly hard to find stories that have fat themes without being entirely fat negative. If there’s a fat-related story you love OR a story about anything by a fat author, I’d love to hear about it! In order for it to be read on the show it needs to be in the public domain or the author needs to be able to give permission!

  • Kurbo (like every diet for kids) is a Terrible Idea

WW (the new incarnation of Weight Watchers) has launched a new venture: a dieting app for kids called Kurbo. We know that diets don’t work and idealizing thinness causes eating disorders, but what could possibly go wrong?! Today on the pod I’m talking about why you should not subject your child to food insecurity and unattainable body ideals for $69 a month.

I got a question on Instagram recently about how to approach accessibility issues (at venues, restaurants, etc) for your super and infinifat friends. This is such an important question! So I thought that it needed a full response.

  • Finite Possibilities–Car Shopping for Super and Infinifats (Episode originally ran in May 2018)

Hello friends! I’ve been sick and haven’t been able to record, so I have a rerun for you this week. It’s a very timely episode, though, as I am car shopping right now myself. It’s been very, very difficult.

It seems like vehicles that infinifats can comfortably drive are becoming harder and harder to find. The thought of going through this process is incredibly daunting. Unfortunately for my cohost for this episode, though, she didn’t have a choice. Thankfully, though, she found something that worked for her and offered to come on the pod to talk through the struggles and the car buying process, and what resulted was some really good tips and advice on making vehicles work for you.
