The Fatigue Files

In this bonus episode of the Fatigue Files podcast, you will travel (if you wish) through the four dwellings of ultimate love, leaving, at the end, with a felt-sense of commitment to the practice of dwelling in love, compassion, joy and equanimity. 

Simply rest back, and let yourself be taken on the journey. Please don't listen while driving or using any kind of machinery. You may well experience an altered state or a trance state. In this episode, Anna reflects on the importance of understanding the centrality of the body as a sensing, capable field of aliveness and a highly evolved, highly  intelligent field of meaning-making.  She explores the Western myth of the body-mind split and challenges the sense in which some approaches to healing are almost echoes, no matter how well-meaning, of that older mythic structure.  Is it time, she wonders, to drop the idea of a 'hyphenation' in bodymind and to move towards a much more entangled, dynamic sense of embodiment, the unconscious, and embodied knowing. Anna presents her reflections as an invitation to an ongoing conversation, perhaps overdue, in the healing community, about the need truly to value, appreciate and learn from the body as an intelligent community of intelligences, rather than to conceptualise it as predominantly being the lesser part of a hyphenated mind-body 'connection'.

Having been diagnosed with CFS in 2012, Shaun Moran recovered using various layers of health optimisation science-based approaches.  Shaun now works as a health and recovery coach and offers a program called the 'CFS-Free Recovery Program'.

In this conversation, Shaun and Anna explore some (but not all) of the layers of health optimisation based in a fundamental respect for the evolutionary biology of the body and the science-led approach that draws on it. In this episode, Anna speaks with Dr Matilda Arvidsson. Matilda recounts her deep journey back from a desperate situation of deep fatigue, trauma and isolation. She had been, at one point, taken to the very edge of her sense of wanting to 'continue as a being'. Her journey back to life centrally involved plants as companions or kin in a relationship of 'being together'. The sheer life force of her plants, Matilda recounts, drew her back into life itself again. This is rich, intriguing conversation invites a refreshing appreciation of how healing our relationship with non-humans can be on our own way 'home' to ourselves. 

Matilda is Associate Professor (docent) in International Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
