WELCOME to the third installment of our series, 9-5.

In the past two talks, we learned this shocking truth: Secular work can be sacred. That through our ordinary jobs, whether we’re selling soap or pulling teeth or balancing spreadsheets, God wants to work beside us, so that together, we can replant the Garden of Eden on our Planet.

In today’s Talk 3, we’ll learn an equally important truth: By itself, work is not enough. To walk, you need two feet. To walk with God, you need the right foot of work and the left foot of trust—which is expressed through rest. Friend, God invites us to enter into this holy rhythm of work and rest.

The key message of Talk 3: Meet God in your quiet place.

We are now in Talk 2 of our new Feast Talk Series, 9 to 5.

Today, we will answer the question: Why are so many people not happy with their jobs? Many people are full-pledged, card-carrying, official members of the TGIF Club, which means

“Thank God It’s Fayday!” They work only for the money. But this was never God’s original idea for work. Today, we will discuss how your work can sanctify your Mondayto Friday work week.

The key message of Talk 2 is: “My work is myworship.”

Today, we start an exciting new series titled 9 to 5.

The simple logic why we’re doing this teaching series: Your job matters to you. Thus, your job matters to God-- because YOU matter to God.

God cares about your 9-5. He wants to be present Monday through Friday and at the center of your career.

The First Worker was God-- He worked for six days to create the universe and man and woman. And He rested on the seventh day.

Then, God settled Man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and care for it. Adam was assigned as the Assistant Gardener to help the Original Gardener to flourish the Garden. Work is God’s special gift to us. But because of sin, we now have to work outside the Garden. So, there are two kinds of work: Work inside the Garden. And work outside the Garden. Work with God. And work without God.

The key message of Talk 1 is: Work in the Garden.

Today, we end with a bang by turning to Acts.

How can we not?

St. Luke wrote a two-volume work—Luke—Acts—with Luke mentioning the Holy Spirit 17 times and Acts mentioning the Holy Spirit 57 times—for a grand total of 74 times. More than

any other Gospel or single Epistle in the New

Testament.

By the way, Luke didn’t give the title to his books. Someone else did that in the 2nd century.

So, if we can rename them, we’ll title them

in this way:

• Gospel of Luke: Acts of the Spirit Through Jesus

• Book of Acts: Acts of the Spirit Through The Church

The key message of Talk 4: You will receive Power.

In our last talk, we explored a number of Spirit-Filled people in the Old Testament-- guys like Joseph, Bezalel, Saul, Gideon, Jephthah, Samson...

In today’s Talk, we focus only on one Person—Jesus—and how He, too, was Spirit-Filled. So, the title of Talk 3 is Spirit-Filled Jesus. Wait a minute. Isn’t Jesus God? Why would He need the Spirit?

Yes, He is God. But Jesus is also fully human. He relied on the Spirit. You’ll find the Spirit intertwined with the earthly life of Jesus, from beginning to end...

One of the beautiful titles of the Holy Spirit is Helper.

By calling the Spirit Helper, Jesus is perhaps telling us: The Spirit is what you need Him to be right now. He will meet you where you are.

The key message of Talk 3 is: You need the Helper.

WELCOME BACK to our empowering series on the Holy Spirit: Do You Hear The Wind?, an in-depth study to get to know The Holy Spirit. Talk 2 is about Spirit-filled people.

In the Bible, there were many who were described as being filled with God’s Spirit.

This Talk focuses only on four of them (though the third example is a bunch). Through these biblical characters, we’ll get a picture of what happens when God’s ruach or breath takes up residence in a human.

The one big message of Talk 2 today is very special because it’s this desperate prayer: “Take not Your Spirit from me.”

For four weeks, we’ll explore the mysterious, less-understood third Person of the Trinity: The Holy Spirit.

If the Trinity had its own Facebook pages, the Holy Spirit would have the least number of likes among them.

I bet 99.99% of Christians pray to the Father and to Jesus. But to the Holy Spirit? Not many.

Let’s face it. The Third Person is not relatable. Here are two reasons...

First, We Don’t Know Who He Is

Second, We Don’t Know What He Does The message of Talk 1: Come, Holy Spirit.

IN the past two talks, we sang the praises of David.

In Talk 7, the young David fought Goliath because he trusted that the battle was the Lord’s.

In Talk 8, David remained loyal to King Saul—even if the king wanted him dead.

So, yes, David had a beautiful heart.

But Talk 9, the last installment of our series, WHO CAN LEAD US?, exposes David’s biggest failures. David won many battles outside, but he lost one crucial battle inside.

Still, David’s failures could not erase God’s plan for his life: To be the preparation and ancestor of King Jesus.

The key message of Talk 9: God’s Love never fails.

Talk 8 continues the story of the shepherd boy David--how he struggles through life’s challenges, particularly against schemes of King Saul who is jealous of him. And David eventually rises to be King of Israel. David then asks God if he can build Him a house—a Temple—but God tells him: “No, I will build a house for you.” This promise is pointing to God’s Kingdom and Jesus as King. He doesn’t take the throne by force. He takes up the cross as He believes surely, the Father would raise Him.

The big message of Talk 8 is: Surely, the Lord will!

We continue our exciting journey through three books in the Bible—Joshua, Judges, and Samuel, asking the question, Who Can Lead Us? Sadly, apart from Joshua and a handful of others, most of the leaders we met were pretty bad actors, including the current king, King Saul. How do you want to live your life?

You have a choice. You can either sit on the rocking chair on your front porch, sipping your tea, watching life pass by—or you can be on an adventure, battling with giants for the people you love. Sometimes, we win. Sometimes, we lose. What matters most is that God is with us in every battle—and if He is—then, in the end, we have already won.
