PHANES, a 21 year old, trans independent artist from Germany. (My pronouns are he/him). I learned how to write and produce music all by myself. I released my first own song in February 2022. Ever since then I'm working on releasing more music. I'm also working on an EP that is gonna be out in early 2023.

Curious about emerging within music, DJ Derekz, decided to join his brother, Flavour of Africa, who at the time was honing in on his musical talent, regularly performing at local bars. DJ Derekz envisioned one day he would be performing just like his brother.

 

Being one to strike whilst the iron is hot, DJ Derekz invested in a used compact disc player and DJ mixes and would play a selection of mixes in the DJ corner after his brother's performances.

 

DJ Derekz soon built a strong following, with club and bar revelers requesting special mixes. This encouraged him to save more funds, which enabled him to buy a used professional DJ mixer, from friend and popular DJ personality at the time, DJ Bala. From here, DJ Derekz performed sets at small gigs, under the mentorship of his brother.

Every year I set out to do something I dreamed of doing as a kid and on my birthday in 2021 I released my first music album, an Extended Play, as a birthday gift to myself - to tell my 12-year old self that "Yes, you wanted to publish music and now you have." It's the best feeling ever!

I lived around music since I was little so music shaped how I look into my past, how I feel in the present, and how I imagine my future. At different stages growing up I've been immersed in different genres; from Adult contemporary, Soul, and 20th-century rock, through Afropop, Gospel/Christian to R&B, Punk, Indie folk, and Latin music. You can imagine how my music library looks. My general tendencies are toward anything with a piano, acoustic guitar, and bass. The fewer instruments the better.

Dominique Dequan Newton, aka Nico Newton, was born on the West Side of Chicago. Growing up in the West Side of Chicago can take the lives of multiple boys and men daily due to the violence; which is considered the way of life there on its streets. Nico’s mother, Ericka Ivy, was determined to provide safety for her children by keeping them off the streets, and occupying them inside the home by injecting music into the family’s blood. Mentored by his grandmother, a talented vocalist, Nico was performing songs and dances from the Temptations and Five Heartbeats in his aunt's living room at 6 years old.
