Fumi Saito & Justin Knipper jumped into the second part of their latest profile series on Riki Choshu on today’s episode, starting things off with a discussion on Choshu’s 1984 jump from NJPW to Japan Pro Wrestling/AJPW. They also went over Choshu’s 60-minute draw with Jumbo Tsuruta, working with Bruiser Brody in AJPW, his jump back to NJPW in 1987 and the infamous incident with Akira Maeda. They also talked a bit about the second phase of his career as NJPW booker in the late ’90s, which is where Fumi & Justin will pick up from on next week’s episode.

Ryan and Paul are back with another episode of In the Clinch covering the week that was and is to come in the world of MMA. It was a quiet week so the "We Have to Talk About" segment is a discussion surrounding ONE FC debuting on Amazon Prime in August and whether or not that platform will be enough to get them any traction in the North American market. They then recap a relatively fun but meaningless show on ESPN+ this past week where Movsar Evloev dominated Dan Ige to jump into a crowded pool of featherweight contenders and Alexander Volkov cemented his status as heavyweight gatekeeper with a 1st round knockout over Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The bulk of the show is previewing UFC 275 this coming weekend from Singapore with 2 title fights and a rematch of one of 2020's fights of the year with Joanna vs Weili 2. Jiri Prochazka looks to become the 205 pound champ in the main event and Taila Santos will be Valentina's next victim at women's flyweight. It's a relatively slow news week with Ryan Hall's ACL injury being the highlight and the guys talk a bit about that before going over some of the big announcements of the past week. They close the shows with some memories of Kimbo Slice, who died 6 years ago today as they were recording.

Today, Fumi Saito & Justin Knipper kicked off their series on the one and only, very special, very unique Riki Choshu, Japan’s first “cool heel” superstar. The two first went over the struggles of Choshu growing up Korean-Japanese, then later his amateur wrestling success at the high school & college level and at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Later, Saito & Knipper discussed Choshu’s overseas excursions to Germany, Florida, & Canada, his interactions with Karl Gotch, his “pipe bomb” on Tatsumi Fujinami in 1981 and their famous series of matches, the origins of the Riki Lariat, the beginning of JWP and much more.
