Shawn Mendes has joined the creative team behind the forthcoming TV adaptation of video game Life Is Strange.Shawn and his manager Andrew Gertler will be executive producers via their company Permanent Content, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Britney Spears’ father wants $2 million U.S. before he walks away as conservator of her finances and estate. This is the claim of her lawyer Mathew Rosengart, who has accused Jamie Spears of extortion in a court filing this week. The lawyer claims Jamie has asked for $1.3 million in legal fees as well as more than $500,000 in payments to himself and his daughter’s former management company. On Aug. 12, a lawyer for Jamie Spears told the court he will step down even though it is quote “highly debatable” a change in conservatorship will be good for his daughter.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is backing Olivia Rodrigo as she faces questions about the originality of her debut album Sour.

“There’s all this drama about Olivia Rodrigo,” Levine said in an Instagram Story. “Look, these are tricky things, and anyone who’s ever written a song knows that sometimes you rip something off inadvertently, and it makes it to tape, and then it gets released, and then there’s a lawsuit. 

Rodrigo's Sour is currently the No. 1 album in the U.S. and No. 2 in Canada.

Kanye West claimed late Sunday that it wasn’t his idea to release his new album DONDA.

The 2021 MTV VMAS officially have their host!

It was announced yesterday that the one and only DOJA CAT will host the Video Music Awards on Sept 12 at Barclays Centre in New York

Doja Cat is up for 5 awards and will also perform, making her a very busy woman!

You can watch the MTV VMAS in Canada on CTV at 8PM/e.

I guess all those tiktok and youtube mashups were on to something because Paramore Singer Hayley Williams and former guitarist Joshua Farro will now be able to cash in on Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song “Good 4 U”

Originally, the song was only credited to Rodrigo and her producer Dan Nigro, but the Paramore pair have been added to the track as songwriters in recognition of its interpolation of the 2007 song Misery Business.

Last month, Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent were added as co-writers to Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu” because of its interpolation of Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer.” (Swift and Antonoff were already credited on Rodrigo’s “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” which interpolates Swift’s 2017 track “New Year’s Day.”)

“Brutal,” another song on Rodrigo’s debut album Sour, has been called out for similarities with Elvis Costello & The Attractions’ 1978 track “Pump It Up” – but Costello tweeted in June: “It’s how rock and roll works. You take the broken pieces of another thrill and make a brand new toy. That’s what I did.”

NIALL HORAN Hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live, Flirts w/ Lizzo! Megan Thee Stallion Wins “Butter” Rights  

For all the #Niall stans out there last night we had the pleasure of some hilarious new content from his guest hosting gig on Jimmy Kimmel Live. 

Even better than the new high quality pictures was his opening monologue which had him reading some hilarious tweet reactions to him announcing his hosting in an American accent of course, setting the record straight on his official fans name as the #Horandogs and he even got a sly dig in on former Mentor Simon Cowell. 

Things only got better from there when he went to play “history’s dumbest round of golf“ with the Jonas brothers after assigning some terrible handicaps to themselves by random draw. *clip* Niall in a kilt and full set of bagpipes still managed to get the best opening shot of the group. Meanwhile Nick definitely had the biggest struggle teeing off with his lubed up club. I’m a golfer myself and I must admit even though it was a total hot mess, I would still like to play a round with them. 

We were then graced by “the sexiest call #Lizzo has ever been on” where the two of them shared their experiences of starting from groups, spent the whole conversation flirting and Niall even brought up her line about Drake in Rumours. Lizzo and Niall finished off their flirty chat with a hilarious and slightly naughty game called “are we compatible?” since their fans all feel like they should date. This was filled with some important discussions, including farting, three-ways, and even animal noises.

A judge in Texas has granted Megan Thee Stallion the right to release a version of the BTS hit “Butter” on which she is featured. Megan's reps argued Releasing new music is “vital to maintain her status as a relatively new but still up and coming artist.” This is GREAT news for all of us, as a judge ruled that the song can drop on Friday!

#CamilaCabello is speaking out against a culture of “overwork, hustling, and business” that led to severe burnout before the pandemic. Shannon did an interview with Camila earlier this month, where she mentioned that she could never go back to making music the way that she did before, and that she’s feeling so much more creatively fulfilled than in her early career.

The baby who graces the cover of one of the most iconic rock albums of all time — Nirvana’s 1991 release Nevermind — has filed a lawsuit against band members claiming he was portrayed as a "sex worker” in a photo that constituted child pornography.

Spencer Elden, who is now 30, is seeking at least $150,000 U.S. each from Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic as well as Courtney Love, the executor of Kurt Cobain’s estate. Other defendants include photographer Kirk Weddle, art director Robert Fisher and original Nirvana drummer Chad Channing, who wasn’t in the band at the time of the cover shoot.

Hello and welcome to a second breaking news update for August 24, brought to you by the filter

Charlie Watts, drummer for The Rolling Stones, died Tuesday. He was 80.

 A statement shared by The Rolling Stones on social media read "It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts," "He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family.

"Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones one of the greatest drummers of his generation."

Earlier this month, Watts announced he was pulling out of the Stones' upcoming tour to recover from "a procedure which was completely successful,” according to his rep. In a statement at the time, Watts said he was “working hard to get fully fit but I have today accepted on the advice of the experts that this will take a while.”

 

Watts joined The Rolling Stones in 1963 and played on every one of the band's studio albums. He was inducted, with his bandmates, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Watts also performed and recorded jazz music.

Tributes quickly starting pouring in for Watts.

Dave Davies of The Kinks tweeted that he was "in total shock" and remembered Watts as "a lovely guy. He will be sorely missed."

Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins paid tribute to the drummer as "one of the all-time greats" and Lol Tolhurst, a founding member of The Cure, tweeted: "All of my hi hat technique I owe to Charlie. Thank you and RIP." 

Watts is survived by Shirley, his wife of nearly 57 years, as well as daughter Seraphina and granddaughter Charlotte.
