At the 2024 European Athletics Championships, we arguably saw the greatest Triple Jump competition in history.
Jordan Diaz Fortun of Spain and Pedro Pichardo of Portugal went jump for jump fighting until the 6th round for the Gold Medal. Diaz Fortun came out on top with a mark of 18.18m, moving him to no.3 on the all-time list. Pichardo jumped 18.04m, which was just the 2nd time in history someone jumped 18m and did not win a competition.
With the dust still settling on a legendary competition out in Rome, the question remains, was this the greatest triple jump competition in history?
Today, I breakdown the European Championship Triple Jump final round by round, as well as take a look back at the history of the triple jump and some other high quality competitions we have seen over the past few decades.
