Jorinde van Klinken was knocking on the door of a global breakthrough for years, cleaning up on the NCAA scene in the meantime. The Paris Olympics in 2024 represented a slight step back, finishing 7th in the discus final, but that just increased the fire more. Rachel Richeson has set a PB every year she's thrown the hammer, but 2025 represented a huge leap forward. She claimed the U.S. indoor title in the weight throw in February before opening with a mammoth hammer mark in April. 78.80m moved her to fifth in world history (currently sixth) and proclaimed her as a contender on the global stage.

She was met with inconsistencies in the summer, fouling out of some meets while putting together impressive performances in others. At USAs, she managed to put it all together to qualify for her first World Championship. Now months removed from her whirlwind season, Richeson talks about what she and Coach AG Kruger saw in training last offseason that hinted at what the this year could look like and how she stayed focused and strong throughout all the ups and downs.

In today's interview, I sat down with two-time U.S. Olympian in the shot put Payton Otterdahl, who's twice landed inside the Top 5 at a global outdoor championship. Payton gave insights on his 2025 season, where he was primed for a big day in Tokyo before elbow and oblique injuries robbed a World Championship opportunity from him. We also talked about what training looks like in the offseason for him, discussed World Athletics' terrible competition schedules, and broke down his big offseason move to work with one of the best in the world.

Alex Rose made his first global championship in 2013. Alex Rose made his first global final in 2022. Alex Rose won his first global medal in 2025. In those 12 years, there were times he was close to retirement, especially when he picked up a full-time job in 2018 and couldn't see a way to balance his two careers. But he stayed the course, getting closer and closer to this ultimate goal in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Coming back from a knee surgery last fall, this season wasn't supposed to be anything special. And then he got the World standard in July. And then he had one of the best training blocks of his life leading into the World Championships. And then he threw 65 meters in qualifying. And then, in a rainy, dangerous, random World final, he threw 66.96 meters in Round 5. He won Samoa's first ever global medal in track and field, reaching a global podium that seemed out of reach for so long.
