The Paulie Throws Podcast

Today's guest is Chase Jackson, the American record holder in the women's shot put and a three-time global champion. Chase's 2026 season is the stuff of legends: winning a World Indoor title at long last, winning 11 out of 14 meets, averaging 20.44m across those meets, all before closing it out with back-to-back 21m performances. Her 21.14m throw to win the Brussels Diamond League Final is the second-best mark this century by a clean athlete.

In our interview, Chase talked about what it was like when Jessica Schilder beat her to 21m, how that flipped a switch for her in the weight room, and what her distance goals look like in the years ahead (Spoiler alert: They're really far).

What an interesting weekend World Ultimates was. How special was this meet? Very, is the answer you're looking for! One of the best slate of men's champions we've ever seen, Jorinde van Klinken completed a once-in-50-years double for the second time in two years, and Jessica Schilder continued to trounce the continent. Ahead of the restart of the Diamond League circuit, this was a great last hurrah of championship season.

Why would a 25 year old retire from competitive throwing less than a year after finishing 10th in the world and throwing a national record of 69.51m? I sat down with New Zealand's Connor Bell to find the answer to that question and more. In this conversation, Bell opened up about what went into his decision to move on from the sport that had shaped the last decade of his life, reflected on some of the best moments from a great career, and looked ahead to what awaits him in his post-throwing life.
