Hosted at Sorinex Summer Strength in South Carolina, defending WSPS Champ Roger Steen was pushed to his limits by Olympic finalist Payton Otterdahl. On June 29th, Joe Brown punched his ticket to Paris with a sixth-round effort of 65.79m to finish third in the men’s discus at the U.S. Olympic Trials. In doing so, Brown secured a spot on his first major championship team, and the moment served as the culmination of Brown’s professional journey since graduating from D2 Texas A&M-Commerce in 2019. University of Oregon senior Jaida Ross has had a season that can only be described as historic. After a runner-up finish by just six centimeters at NCAA Indoors, Ross has torn the outdoor record books apart. She broke the collegiate record in her opener, throwing 19.71m, equalled that mark three weeks later, then became the first woman in collegiate history to break the 20 meter barrier at NCAA West Regionals last Thursday with a mark of 20.01m.I got the chance to catch up with Ross just before she reaches the most critical part of her season, with NCAA Outdoor Championships coming up next week and Olympic Trials on the horizon. At only 21-years-old, Mykolas Alekna is already the world record holder in the men's discus. In 2022 he became the youngest-ever World Championship medalist in the event and later became the youngest European Champion in history.
