Christian Coleman is the 2019 World Champion and one of the fastest 100m sprinters in history with his personal best of 9.76. But since winning his world title, he has yet to return to the podium at either Worlds or Olympics. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has entered to run the 400m at the 2025 Ed Murphy Classic on July 12th. This comes immediately after she ran the 400m at the Prefontaine Classic, but was slightly disappointed in the result. Sydney being the 2x Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder in the 400m Hurdles may look to run the 400m at this years World Championships, but will ultimately make her decision after this weekend's race.

Breaking the 9.80 second barrier in the 100m Dash has always been seen as one of the most remarkable accomplishments in Track & Field. Over the past 40 years, since Ben Johnson first illegally ran 9.79 at the 1988 Olympics and Maurice Greene officially ran 9.79 in 1999, we have progressively seen more and more athletes run 9.7 seconds for faster. This was most notable during the Usain Bolt Era where a plethora of sprinters broke the barrier on multiple occasions. Since then, there has been a drop off in number sub-9.80 second performances in recent years.

Kishane Thompson recently ran 9.75 seconds in Jamaica, the fastest time in 10 years, and an indication that we may see more athletes dip under the barrier once again, similar to like we had seen in years past.
