Tonight on the show we get into the nuclear apocalypse and our first animated film as we talk about signs of the apocalypse, Canadian hockey playoffs, David Bowie, European political propaganda, and find time to discuss one of our new favorites: When the Wind Blows. Next week we come back to talk about 90s box-office bomb: The PostmanThere’s some audio that is normally not heard like me typing at times or flipping pages of notes in this episode; trying to eliminate those next time. Looking around the house, Hidden behind the window and the door, Searching for signs of life But there's only a boy and his misogynist dog and it’s good. Tonight we talk about another heavy hitter A Boy and his Dog. We dive into the coke mound that was the 70s and learn about the Aldi’s Sam Elliot, the eclectic soundtrack of 1975, SAM F—— PECKINPAH, experience tracking & VHS artifacting on modern streaming services, and explain the equally problematic and influential: Harlan Ellison. Additionally we try and read some logic into this dated movie that seemed to rub people the wrong way then and now. It is a fun time. Thanks for watching.Intro song is from the film Six String Samurai performed by Red Elvises Outro song is It’s the End of the World as We Know it by R.E..M from the album Pickin’ on REM: the Bluegrass TributeNext week we look at animated apocalyptic classic When the Wind Blows from the director of equally classic Heavy Metal

  • The Final Picture Show Podcast: 40 Empire Records (1995)

Sometimes, this big town, It can drag you up

As well as drag you down to Empire Records. WE are at episode 40! It's a long time coming we talk about one of favorite movies: Major League 3, I mean Empire Records! We get into all sorts of aspects of this film. How it came to be made, why it bombed, how it formed a cult, the cast, and Cant Hardly Wait’s connection to this film. We dive deep into the soundtrack, the cast, and more as we spend the week doing something completely different.

Next week we get back to the wastelands as we look at a classic genre: A Boy and His Dog.

This week also has some audio issues and a warning up front as this was a hell of an episode to piece together as we ran into problem after problem. So you will notice the audio changes in places as I had to piece together what you are listening to from a bunch of smaller chunks of our original recording, the small chunks when At&t worked for just a minute. Hopefully next week these issues are fixed as this episode was recorded during a storm.

    Thanks for watching.
