Episode 12 - Benefits of Meditation
"I'm too busy to meditate!"
I often use to say that I am too busy to meditate. However, the opposite is true! I'm too bust NOT to meditate!
In 2020 I went through a period when I meditated everyday for 4 months. Now, this didn't change my life, but what I did find is that I was calmer, more positive, and more present.
This meant that, during this period I was more successful, more resilient, and happier.
Meditation for a short periode everyday, say 10 - 15 minuets at a time, calms the mind and tones down all the excess mind chatter. For me, this allows other thoughts to float in and out of my mind. Sometimes solutions, sometimes helps me to navigate difficult situations, sometimes to exercise gratitude.
I think, part of the stigma around meditation is that people think that meditation is sitting quietly, listening to chimes, legs crossed, and chanting, which... sometimes it is. However, meditation is about busying the mind with a simple task so that you can relax the rest of the mind. This can be; taking a walk, gardening, reading a book, going for a run, walking the dog, cleaning... The possibilities are endless.
I'm not perfect. I have fallen out of habit with meditation. I have started to notice that, despite being busy and running a thriving business, I am not noticing how grateful I am for every opportunity I have, I am burning out, and I am not as happy as I was. One thing I know will help with this is meditation. So, for me, this episode is a rocket up my a** to get back into meditation. I hope this does the same for you.
The key topics of this episode are:
