There is no growth in comfort. There is only growth in struggle, and grit is a skill you can train rather than a personality you were issued.
Mark Gasparotto is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran who now runs field based resilience programmes. His central correction is that one: resilience is trainable, which means the people who have it were built, not born, and the people who do not can be.
The method needs friction, and it needs company. His phrase for what binds a team is chewing the same dirt, shared hardship producing the trust that no offsite ever manages. Psychological safety is what lets a team stay functional under that pressure, and it is built through vulnerability rather than reassurance.
He works in four pillars, body, mind, heart and soul, and across three phases, preparation, performance and recovery. The recovery phase is the one everyone skips, and the cross-stressor adaptation hypothesis is why it matters: a body trained to handle one kind of stress handles others better. Sleep and gratitude are not soft additions to that. They are the mechanism.
For leaders whose teams have never been tested together, and for anyone who has decided resilience is a trait they lack.
