Welcome to the Forvm! Who are we? What is this? And why would a bunch of Howlers and Red Rising fans want to listen to a couple of nerds (and their guest) breakdown Plato, Hobbes, and Keegan? Give a listen and find out!
Welcome to The Forvm! Who are we? What is this? And why would a bunch of Howlers and Red Rising fans want to listen to a couple of nerds (and their guest) breakdown Plato, Hobbes, and Keegan? Give a listen and find out!

The Forvm is a project born of curiosity and a heavy handed dose of nerdiness. We’re here to read the texts that are foundational not only to the Western Canon and history, but to Red Rising…
We realized that there's probably other Howlers that want to talk about these books and how they connect to Red Rising as well. These ideas are huge and given how often we pop into each other’s comments sections, it’s evident that exploring them becomes all the more interesting and fun to break down in dialogue with others.
So that's what we're going to do; we’ll talk about these books. We'll link them back to the series that we love, but we’ll really focus on the source texts themselves, together with other Howlers. Along the way we hope to find out more about Howler1 himself and his worlds populated by Darrow and Eo, the Society and the Rising, each other, and (if all goes to plan!) you guys.

About Lejla
-
Lejla is a reader, embroiderer, perfumery student and general hobby menace. She's lived in seven countries across three continents and is generally likely to be recording the pod from who knows where. Her favorite Greek myth is the one Aristophanes tells in the Symposium about humans' search for love and the origin of soulmates. Spoiler alert, Zeus was kinda a dick... again. The three books that define her (other than Red Rising, of course) are:
Fitzroy Maclean's Eastern Approaches: A wild autobiography depicting a life truly lived, all before his mid 30s.
Joe Hill's Locke and Key: A coming of age story dealing with grief and loss, wrapped in the classic, King family, moody, atmospheric, Maine horror.
Mikhail Bulgakov's Master and Margarita: The classic Soviet satire depicting The Devil's visit to atheist Moscow and the havoc he wreaks on the city's intellectual classes.

About Cullen
-
Host of the Sons of Ares Pod, town clerk for a small fishing village on the coast of Maine, avid reader, sometimes actor, regular lover of scotch and tobacco. He began his life long love affair for all things history and scifi/fantasy by listening to his gramps (Da) at a young age regale him with tales of Dunkirk, Rome, and Frodo. The three books that define him (other than Red Rising, of course) are:
Victor Davis Hanson's Carnage and Culture: issues with the author aside, a wonderfully written and evocative bit of writing that brings the past to life.
Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's Eagle: the first of many adventures with Dick Sharpe as he navigates the Napoleonic Wars.
Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game: the OG kids in space deciding the fate of humanity while learning how to be the next Caesar.
