About Dr. Kim Smith-Whitley: Dr. Smith-Whitley joined GBT in May 2021 as executive vice president and head of research and development (R&D;). Dr. Smith-Whitley is a world-renowned hematologist and sickle cell disease thought leader and advocate with over 30 years of experience. Most recently, she was the Clinical Director of Hematology and Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
