AVOIDING THE BIG MISTAKES EDITION
It is common for people to believe they possess the character to be successful investors. Moreover, many also unconsciously possess the traits that make them bad investors, which can cause them to lose money on investments.
When it comes to trading or investing, making mistakes is part of the learning process. Stocks, exchange-traded funds, and other securities are typically held by investors for a longer period of time. The average trader buys and sells futures and options, holds those positions for a shorter period of time, and is involved in more transactions.
Despite using different types of trading transactions, investors commit detrimental mistakes that can make or break their long-term gains.
Join us as wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy discusses the seven types of bad investors with career advisor Sergio Patterson and attorney Matthew McElroy. Tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.

Bear markets are an inevitable part of life. However, it can be challenging to anticipate them, to predict how long they will last, or to gauge the extent to which they will affect stock prices. It is not just possible to survive bear markets, but you can also benefit from them. You can use the following techniques to reduce or even profit from the bear market.
The bear market is characterized by a sharp decline in the prices of securities combined with a sweeping negativity that continues to permeate the market. The more investors anticipate losses in a bear market and the more they sell, the more pessimism grows.
It can be hard to predict when stocks will bottom out after they begin to decline. In these cases, identifying the best timing and managing active trading at the onset of a bear market can be challenging.
In a bear market, what can we do to protect ourselves from losses, or even make money?
In this week’s episode, Lee Michael Murphy discusses why the market's so volatile, explains what needs to happen to fix the current issues, and how to handle a bear market. With career advisor Sergio Patterson and attorney Matthew McElroy, tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.

If you want to invest like Warren Buffett, you don't need to do anything extraordinary. In fact, many new investors are surprised at just how uncomplicated the Oracle of Omaha's investment style is. To sum it up in one sentence, Buffett invests in great businesses trading for less than their intrinsic values, and then he holds on to these investments for as long as they remain great businesses.
Prioritizing a margin of safety is a cornerstone of Buffett's investment philosophy. In simple terms, a margin of safety refers to characteristics of an investment that help to protect investors from losing money. Buffett doesn’t invest in low-quality companies. According to him, "It’s far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price.” As Buffett does, the best way to invest is to ignore the crowd entirely and focus on finding value on your own.
These are just a few examples of Buffett’s strategy. According to Buckingham Group’s Chief Research Officer Larry Swedroe, people say Warren Buffett is the greatest investor of all time yet fails to follow his advice.
Join us as CRO Larry Swedroe, who has written 19 books on investment strategies and had several articles published in journals, discusses how to invest like Warren Buffett, his advice to beginner investors surrounded by TikTok “investment gurus,” the importance of value investing, and more.
