In the Mission San Jose District of Fremont, a new bakery is opening providing baked goods that are from of dairy, gluten, and other potentially adverse elements. However, the one element that they are not free of is LOVE.

In this episode, Sway Soturi, the "bossy asian woman" owner, tells a little of her story and reflects on how important it is to truly care about what you do and why and how you do it. Sway shares her experience as an entrepreneur as being shaped by her childhood as well as her dreams and struggles becoming an adult.

Watching a once thriving and hopeful community, hobbling along without much to offer can be discouraging. But Better Block is an organization that helps communities discover what their community can do with just a little help and organization to make it better.

The Mission San Jose district of Fremont will be holding a large block party put together in part by Better Block, the local residents of the community, and our City officials. This is turning out to be quite the event. While so many places have been affected by the COVID shutdown, Mission San Jose is no exception. This type of event is helpful for the community to reengage and imagine possibilities within the community going forward.

Better Block Fremont will take place Friday, September 9 from 5-9pm and Saturday, September 10 from 11am-3pm at the corner of Washington Blvd and Ellsworth St in Mission San Jose. Fremont is the home to a large population of various people groups from around the world. Perhaps one of the largest overlooked groups in our community is the deaf community. Fremont is one of two cities in California that has a School for the Deaf, and because of that, there is a significant residual community of deaf people living among us.

A people group closely attached to the deaf community are the CODA (children of deaf adults). In this episode, I sit down with Ashley and Dane, who have both grown up in our community and who are children of deaf adults. The conversation in stimulating and insightful.
