Iraq's stunning marshlands are believed to be the location of the biblical Garden of Eden, in ancient Mesopotamia. They were destroyed by Saddam Hussein, then restored by the work of Dr Azzam Alwash and the NGO Iraq Nature. Now once again they face disaster thanks to the threat of climate change and a multitude of dams further up the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
