Isaiah and the prophets condemned Israel’s insensitivity to the poor as covenant breaking. They taught that materialism and ignoring the poor are sin; whereas, mercy to the poor is evidence of true worship.

Jeremiah 29v4-13

Grace radically reshapes our mission to and our posture within the specific place we live. We are called to love and serve our place of residence, rather than resemble it, or remove ourselves from it.

Jesus' life, death and resurrection create a new humanity. By focusing on Christ we are able to humble ourselves and live together in tremendous unity.

Behind all human rebellion and sin is a faulty picture of God. The quality of our relationship with God depends on the way we imagine God. We cannot get rid of God without creating God substitutes - idols. Idolatry is looking to something to give you the kind of hope, the kind of value, the kind of safety that only God himself can give you.
