Behind all human rebellion and sin is a faulty picture of God. The quality of our relationship with God depends on the way we imagine God. We cannot get rid of God without creating God substitutes - idols. Idolatry is looking to something to give you the kind of hope, the kind of value, the kind of safety that only God himself can give you.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain for ourselves. Justice is being fair and equitable with others. Matthew 21:1-11

Gluttony is the desire to consume more than you require. Temperance is moderation of needed things and abstinence from things which are not needed.

Lust is a powerful craving for things such as sex, power and money. Charity is using our power and resources to care for others.

Anger comes from a negative view of the past, present or future which leads to the loss of self-control and the desire to harm others. Hope is taking a positive future view, that good will prevail.

Envy is the desire for what others have; Prudence is the care of and moderation with what we do have.

Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. (Step 12 of the Twelve Steps)

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of God’s will for us and the power to carry that out. (Step 11 of the Twelve Steps)

We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. (Steps 8 - 10 of the Twelve Steps)
