Happy 2021! The pod returns with a high profile guest, Milwaukee Brewers Sr. Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold, a 2001 UCSB Graduate & advocate for Gaucho Athletics - plus we review the rankings and pre-season accolades for this talented Gaucho roster.
We conclude 2020 with Head Coach Andrew Checketts and Associate Head Coach Matt Fonteno talking about the best performances and impressions from a productive and rewarding Fall season. The Gaucho9 Podcast will return in January, geared up for 2021.
Gaucho Assistant Coach Dylan Jones joins the pod this week to recap what has been a constructive and encouraging Fall on the diamond. Jones has led the infielders and the catching unit on top of his normal pitching duties and provides us with some impressions on some returning Gauchos as well as a crop of talented newcomers; plus coaching inspirations and the challenges of recruiting during a pandemic.
UCSB Analytics is here to share their impressions on the first 5 scrimmages of the Fall season where veterans and new comers alike are already showing quality performances on the diamond, and oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving from the Gauchos!
Veteran hurlers Michael McGreevy and Chris Troye join the pod this week to discuss life as a Gaucho pitcher, specifically the extended routines surrounding arm care. We dive into Troye's Tommy John rehab, starter vs closer mentality, analytical transformations, and finally returning to the diamond for Fall 2020.
When one door closes (for the time being) another one opens, perhaps for the long term. Former Gauchos JJ Muno, Tommy Jew & Thomas Rowan have not only done their best to stay in shape this Summer & Fall without organized baseball but have created an outlet for Santa Barbara youth baseball players to do the same. This week we talk about their work with GVSLL in helping to get the kids back onto the field for some unique instruction.
It's a Day in the Life of a Gaucho (part 1) featuring 4th-year players Jason Willow & McClain O'Connor who sit down to talk about COVID adjustments this Fall, the typical schedule for a collegiate baseball player at UCSB & the importance of clubhouse chemistry, then UCSB Analytics jumps on to wrap up the World Series, the wild analytics behind the Snell pitching change, and Shane Bieber becoming a Cy Young finalist.
This week we open with World Series impressions with UCSB Analytics for the first 5 games of Dodgers v Rays, then are joined (11:15) by former Gaucho Student Manager Ryan Bobb who was a member of the 2016 CWS Team and current Player Development Analyst with the San Francisco Giants, to talk 2020 Arizona Instructs, Ops, managerhood, and his unique perspective of the Omaha run.
