‘The Revenant’ Pirate Escapes Jail, But not a $1.2M penalty for illegal uploading. Six months after pleading guilty to copyright infringement for uploading screeners of "The Revenant" and "The Peanuts Movie" online, former studio employee William Kyle Morarity was sentenced to pay $1.2m in restitution and 8-months house arrest. Morarity uploaded the movie to a BitTorrent site called "Pass the Popcorn" which was under FBI survailance. In lieu of hard time, a very big financial burden and home arrest were deemed the best consequences by the court – and a warning to others. In addition, Morarity also helped the feds put together a PSA on the pitfalls and consequences of piracy.
