  • Teach to Reach Dialogue: Challenging vaccine hesitancy in districts and health facilities
Do you want to know what works when faced with vaccine hesitancy?
We will share key insights from in-depth qualitative research of 750 peer-reviewed case studies developed by COVID-19 Scholar Peer Hub Scholars from districts and health facilities.
Case study authors will be invited to share how this experience has helped them meet the challenges of COVID-19 vaccine introduction and roll-out.
This research was sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and performed by a specialized qualitative research consultancy firm.

  • IA2030 Consultation strengthening essential immunization and PHC during COVID 19 vaccine rollout
This Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) consultation, co-chaired by Folake Olayinka (Chair of IA2030 Working Group on UHC/PHC) and Palenfo Dramane (Côte d’Ivoire Scholar), will bring the voices and inputs from country policy makers and implementers to contribute to strengthening routine immunization and PHC during COVID vaccine rollout.
Ahead of the consultation, I would like to ask you to consider these four questions.
Q1. What has been your experience in safeguarding and strengthening immunization and PHC services during COVID 19 vaccine rollout? (Draw out experiences, risks, lessons)
Q2. How can we do better to strengthen immunization and PHC during the rollout of COVID vaccines? (Test the assumption)
Q3. What are the enablers and opportunities? (How to be intentional)
Q4. Share recommendations, tools or technical resources you have found helpful to achieve this? (Identify Tools and technical resources needed)

  • Immunization Agenda 2030 SP1 conceptual framework co-creation session at Teach to Reach: Connect 4
In 2022, the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) Strategic Priority 1 (SP1) working group plans to develop a framework that describe the relationships between immunization, PHC, and UHC, and a theory of action describing steps needed to achieve the ultimate goal of increased universal health coverage. The SP1 working group, together with the Geneva Learning Foundation, plans to apply a co-creation approach to ensure that the frameworks reflect the perspectives of immunization program staff (e.g. vaccinators, managers, planners) and clients.
Leveraging the opportunity to engage with national and sub-national immunization staff at Teach to Reach: Connect 4 on 10 December 2021, SP1 held a 30-minute brainstorming session with a core group of IA2030 Alumni who submitted a SP1 action plan. The goals of this session were to:
    1. Listen to participants’ perspectives on how immunization could strengthen PHC and UHC
    2. Identify specific but context-sensitive actions that participants believe will lead to improved PHC/UHC through immunization.
Analysis of participant responses will help the SP1 working group to refine the focus, or goal, of the theory of action. Analysis will also yield information on participants’ motivations, priorities, and pain points, which will ultimately strengthen the relevance and applicability of the framework.
The brainstorming components used the “backcasting” approach from human centered design, where the group starts with a How Might We statement, and then is asked to imagine what the ideal future state looks like, and actions that are needed to achieve it (see figure below).

  • TGLF Dialogue for Learning, Leadership, and Impact (Season 1, Episode 9)
We are pleased to announce the Geneva Learning Foundation’s Ninth Dialogue for Learning & leadership .
[Note: due to a technical problem with the livestream first recorded on 28 November 2021, we are restreaming the Dialogue on 5 December 2021.]
The Geneva Learning foundation’s Dialogue connects a diverse group of learning leaders from all over the world who are tackling complex learning, leadership, and impact challenges.
Join Reda Sadki and Karen E. Watkins from The Geneva Learning Foundation in a global roundtable with twenty remarkable Key Contributors.
We reflect on the significance of leadership for current trends, explore lessons learned and successes, and problem-solve real-world challenges and dilemmas submitted by Members of the Dialogue.
Tonight, however, we are going to start with Dr. Mai Abdalla. After studying global health security in at Yosei University South Korea and both public health and pharmaceutical science in her own country, Egypt. By the time she turned 30, Dr Abdalla had already worked with the Ministry of Health, UN agencies, and the African Union Commission. The accomplishments of her professional life are just the starting point, as we want to explore where and how did she learn to do what she does now? What has shaped her practice of leadership?
We are privileged to have Key Contributors Laura Bierema and Bill Gardner, together with Karen Watkins, three Scholars who have dedicated their life's work to the study of leadership and learning. As we learn about Mai Abdalla’s leadership journey, they share their insights and reflections.
Here are a few of the questions we have explored in previous episodes of the Dialogue:
    • How do you define your leadership in relationship to learning? • Do you see yourself as a leader? Why or why not? If you do, who are your 'followers'? Are you a 'learning leader' and, if so, what does that mean?
    • How do you define leadership in this Digital Age? How is it different from leadership in the past?
    • When and how did you realize the significance of the leadership question in your work and life? Who or what helped you come to consciousness? What difference did it make to have this new consciousness about the importance of leadership?
    • What is your own leadership practice now? Can you tell us about a time when you exercised 'leadership'. What were the lessons learned? What would you do the same or differently if confronted with the same situation in the future?
In the second half of the Dialogue, we explored the leadership challenges of other other invited Contributors, including:
Sanusi Getso on leadership to establish antenatal care services for a neglected community.
Alève Mine shares her quandary about how to understand something for which no scaffold exists in one's current view of the world.

  • Hackathon #2 for Immunization Agenda 2030 (16 November 2021)
HACKATHON #2 FOR IMMUNIZATION AGENDA 2030
755 Alumni of the Geneva Learning Foundation’s immunization programme kicked off the first Immunization Agenda 2030 Impact Accelerator on 8 November 2021.
In the second of four weekly Hackathons, using the Geneva Learning Foundation’s ITCH methodology, participants met to support one colleague who is facing a significant challenge.
We start with one person who has a challenge.
    This is the Challenge Owner.
We ask him or her to add any necessary information to understand his or her challenge.
The team asks additional questions, if necessary.
We then call on participants to share their experience.
Ask yourself: how can my experience help the Challenge Owner?
You do not say, “You should do...” you say, “I’ve been through this, and this is what I’ve done, this is how it turned out for me.”
Be specific in your contribution: what happened? how did it turn out? what is the lesson that can be helpful to your colleague?
    WHAT IS ITCH?
The Immunization Training Challenge Hackathons (ITCH) were co-created by The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) with national and sub-national immunization staff who need to develop people in order to improve immunization programme performance.
ITCH was first offered an “opt-in” activity for learners in the Teach to Reach (T2R) Accelerator Program between March and May 2020.
ITCH focuses on networked collaborative problem-solving between peers.
The ITCH process in and of itself constitutes a kind of learning or coming to consciousness — participants realizing how much they could learn from each other (peer learning), experiencing the power of defying distance to solve problems together (remote learning), and feeling a growing sense of belonging to a community emergent (social learning), across country borders and health system levels (networked learning).
