Since July 2020, the Centre for Change and Complexity (C3L) for Learning has been cooperating with the Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) to support the "learning analytics" of the COVID-19 Peer Hub. The Peer Hub is a digital network of more than 26,000 immunization professionals collaborating to keep vaccination services going during the pandemic.

On Tuesday 26 January 2021, C3L's George Siemens, Vitomir Kovanovic, and Sasha Poquet will join the Teach to Reach Accelerator Conference, the world's largest international gathering of immunization professionals dedicated to learning, leadership, and innovation – at the precise moment when every country is facing the ultimate complex challenge of preparing to introduce or is already rolling out COVID-19 vaccine.

Author or co-author of 6 books, over 80 articles, and numerous book chapters, Karen Watkins's scholarly interests include incidental learning, action science, and organizational learning assessment. With Victora Marsick, they developed and validated an instrument to measure learning culture and performance.

Karen helped found The Geneva Learning Foundation in 2016, guiding the development of its immunization programme. In 2019, she performed the first evaluation of the programme, providing evidence to support the invention of the Impact Accelerator, a radically-new method to lead and measure change.

In this interview, she will share the key insights about learning that has underpinned the Foundation's execution of the idea that education, at its best, is a powerful philosophy for change in the Digital Age.

What is the Teach to Reach Accelerator conference?

COVID-19 vaccine introduction may be the most complex learning challenge the immunization community has faced.

The Teach to Reach Conference (26-28 January 2021) will explore what immunization staff need to learn and how we need to change to get new vaccines to new target groups at speed.

Alongside the urgency of “learning to learn” during the pandemic, this Conference aims to contribute to the change that is needed to make learning and leadership a “best buy” for both donors and countries and a key driver for innovation that will propel immunization staff on their way to achieving the global goals.

Who is organizing this conference?

This event, hosted by The Geneva Learning Foundation with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is being curated by an organizing committee of 282 country-based immunization professionals who completed the Teach to Reach Scholar programme in 2020.

Country teams from the COVID-19 Peer Hub will be sharing what they have learned during the pandemic and how they are preparing for COVID-19 vaccine introduction.
