The GEO Show episodes

  • Stop Blocking Bots. Start Getting Paid.

Welcome to episode 38 of The GEO Show, the briefing on Generative Engine Optimization and AI visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten stories: Profound's Google AI mode citation instability, Azoma's agentic commerce citations, Nexi's merchant catalog push in Europe, Mastercard Agent Pay credentials, BrandGhost's 11.8% cross-engine overlap, Machine Relations' long-tail citation map, AppScribed's live-vs-API tracking gap, Cloudflare's Disallow AI Training setting, the NYT "doom loop" filings, and Pyra's Primey race engineer.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿค– Profound flags Google AI mode citation variability

    • ย Profound's status page says Google AI mode citation data remains affected by variability. One of the category's largest vendors is publicly acknowledging that AI search measurement can go unstable when the model layer moves. Treat those numbers with a grain of salt.

๐Ÿ›’ Azoma: 86.5% of Alexa shopping citations are earned or social

    • ย Dunnhumby Ventures invested in Azoma. Q2 analysis: 86.5% of citations behind Alexa shopping recommendations came from earned or social media (76% for Walmart Sparky), not brand.com. Off-site citation work is not optional in commerce GEO.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Nexi ร— Refi Buy: catalogs as AI infrastructure

    • ย European payments giant Nexi is helping merchants structure product catalogs for AI agents. A forthcoming survey of ~28,000 consumers across 11 countries found more than half used AI in the prior month to search, find, or buy. Machine-readable catalogs are becoming table stakes.

๐Ÿ’ณ Mastercard gives agents one-time payment credentials

    • ย Mastercard Agent Pay into Alchemy's Agent Card means approved AI agents can use one-time tokenized credentials inside user-set constraints. Agentic commerce is moving from recommending to buying. Trust will follow the same path early online shopping did.

    ๐Ÿ“Š BrandGhost: only ~11.8% cross-engine source overlap

    • ย Across 7,902 citations on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, source overlap is about 11.8%. In 41.8% of comparable recommendation sets, brand overlap was zero. Winning one engine does not win another. GEO is at least a two-platform game.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Half of AI citations need 1,357 domains

    • ย Machine Relations' index: top 10 domains are only ~7% of citations. Reaching 50% of citation share takes 1,357 domains; 80% takes 6,643. Reddit leads at 1.81%. Paris's read: this is a volume and long-tail game, not a single New York Times link.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Live ChatGPT vs API tracking can disagree completely

    • ย AppScribed: one buyer query hit 5/10 live logged-out ChatGPT runs and 0/30 API runs. Broader set: 196,554 citations over 91 days, including pages ranked #80 or outside Google's top 100. Prompt tracking is probabilistic. You still need to be indexed. You do not need top 10.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Cloudflare: reject training without killing search

    • ย The Disallow AI Training setting publishes a no-training preference while qualified mixed-use crawlers keep indexing. Defaults often block training bots. For most brands maximizing AI visibility, Paris's call is clear: let the training bots in so models learn accurate brand facts.

๐Ÿ“ฐ NYT filings and the "doom loop"

    • ย Unsealed filings warn that AI products can weaken publisher economics and eventually degrade the content models depend on. For B2B brands the practical move is sharing proprietary knowledge without giving away the secret sauce.

    ๐Ÿ Pyra Primey: race-engineer diagnosis from $69/mo

    • ย Pyra's Primey layer explains competitor citation wins and next actions. Diagnosis and recommendation are moving down market. GEO, like SEO, remains a competitive game.

Subscribe to The GEO Show wherever you get your podcasts, and watch the full episode on YouTube.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If Cloudflare defaults to blocking training bots, did you check your settings this week, or are you still flying blind on what the models can learn about your brand?

  • Revisiting Content Workflows for GEO

Welcome to episode 37 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, sits with Simon for GEO Day 11 LinkedIn Live. They cover Cursor / GrokBot token burn and "generous" as marketing language, agent orgs that invoice via Xero, LinkedIn outreach and podcast-guest booking as citation machines (~5 citations per appearance), Jason Swenk's Smart Agency soft ask, then Simon's Stitch GEO content stack: ContentForge FAQ โ†’ Claude-enriched script + ElevenLabs (Paul's voice) โ†’ Gemini NotebookLM video โ†’ YouTube #1 (~1 hour old, 1 view) plus a LinkedIn newsletter at ~105 subscribers the same hour. Framing on tape: YouTube for Google AI Overviews; LinkedIn Pulse for ChatGPT citations.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Cursor credits and "generous" marketing language
Simon hits pay-as-you-go burn (~$25 in ~10 minutes) and gets a support reply that "generous" is descriptive marketing language, not a fixed public unit. Paris is at ~52% of a $200 plan after about seven podcast-repurpose runs in five days. Token demand still looks voracious, not bubbly.

๐Ÿค– Agent orgs, Xero invoicing, SaaS under pressure
Simon had Claude design an agency org, then a chief-of-staff bot spun up ~20 roles. A bot plugged into Xero sent invoices and caught a spelling error. Call-archive analysis and schema sweeps show computer-use agents eating Gong-class and SEO grunt work. Constraint is tokens.

๐Ÿ“ฃ LinkedIn outreach and podcast guests as citation machines
Claude-backed LinkedIn outreach spots converting phrases and drafts next threads. Podcast-guest booking at 5โ€“10 pitches/day compounds. Each appearance can yield ~5 citation surfaces (Apple, Spotify, YouTube, show notes/recap). Jason Swenk's Smart Agency model: soft guest invite, then GEOforge trial. PR shops charging $300โ€“$500 per booking look toast.

๐Ÿงฉ Stitch stack: ContentForge FAQ to YouTube #1
Prompt: bulk WhatsApp marketing compliance under UK data protection / TPS rules. ContentForge FAQ: accuracy 10, information gain 9.5. Published on Stitch blog as FAQ. Claude enriched a ~7-minute script in Paul's voice; Gemini NotebookLM video; ElevenLabs narration. Live search: #1 and top two organic; video ~1 hour old with 1 view.

๐Ÿ“ฐ YouTube for Google AI Overviews; LinkedIn Pulse for ChatGPT
Same hour: Paul Gander newsletter ~105 subscribers; first article mirrors the FAQ with Answer-first structure and YouTube embed. ChatGPT favors LinkedIn Pulse/newsletters; Google AI Overviews favor YouTube. Do both. Direct answer belongs in the top of the page.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Studio tools, carousels, daily compound surfaces
Stitch internal studio for image/social. Next tests: voice interviews into knowledge base, People Also Ask โ†’ FAQ โ†’ video โ†’ Pulse, LinkedIn carousels with a light paid boost, YouTube boosts on breakout clips. Paris demos the GEO Show hub and daily repurpose path (YouTube, Transistor, site transcript page, LinkedIn draft).

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the workflows and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If a one-view YouTube clip can still rank #1 for a compliance prompt, are you optimizing for views or for citations?

  • Profound Owns Half of GEO โ€” Market Still Tiny

Welcome to episode 36 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten GEO stories:ย
RAMP vendor concentration with Profound at 52% of GEO software spend while only 1.2% of SaaS buyers purchased any GEO tool, AppsFlyer click-only AI attribution across eight engines, PeakMetrics reputation GEO for communications teams, Bluefish x Bazaarvoice UGC for e-comm citations, Rankability's cross-engine citation study (24.1% max overlap; 55.2% of top AI citations miss Google's top 10), Stacker low-DR earned media, FogLift tool-recommendation concentration, Ahrefs Brand Radar scaling to 30M prompts, QueryLift's Japan seed, and RadIntel Radar.

    In this episode:

    • ๐Ÿ“Š RAMP: Profound owns half of GEO spend; market still tiny
    • Among RAMP businesses buying GEO software: Profound 52%, Peak 18%, AirOps 17%. Peak is fastest-growing; AirOps has the highest switch rate. Profound surged from near zero toward ~50% share, then recent growth flattened after a $180M raise at a $1.8B valuation. Perspective check: only 1.2% of RAMP SaaS buyers bought any GEO tool in September 2026. Wide-open category. Weak stickiness.
    • ๐Ÿ”— AppsFlyer: AI attribution that is still click-only
    • Attributes organic discovery across eight AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Groq, Manus, DeepSeek) plus paid ChatGPT ads through app re-engagement, installs, and web/mobile conversions. Still click-based only. Not impression or brand-mention attribution. Positive step, not attribution solved.
    • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ PeakMetrics: reputation GEO for comms teams
    • AI Perceptions (launched Sep 17) tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Groq, and Perplexity characterize brands, then connects those perceptions to news, social, and community narratives. Reputation and narrative intelligence, not pure visibility. GEO diverging into PR/comms.
    • ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Bluefish x Bazaarvoice: UGC as e-comm citation fuel
    • Bluefish spots AI visibility gaps and routes into Bazaarvoice review, sampling, and structured content workflows. Vendor-sponsored research: 90% of surveyed consumers want AI recs sourced from real reviews/photos; 59% of AI-cited product pages had 100+ reviews; 92% rated 4 stars or higher; 65% showed a review summary near the top (1,700+ survey + 237,804 citation instances). Structured UGC is a top e-comm GEO lever.
    • ๐Ÿ“ Rankability: 24% overlap, 55% miss Google top 10
    • 1,645 AI query-page observations across 10 platforms. No platform pair shared more than 24.1% of cited pages. 55.2% of top-10 AI citations did not rank in Google's traditional top 10. Observed relationships, not causal factors. No single AI ranking. SEO is not GEO. Index matters; page-one ranking does not.
    • ๐Ÿ“ฐ Stacker: low-DR earned media still wins citations
    • 895 distributed stories / ~212k pickups across six AI services. Sites with DR under 40 generated one-fifth of Stacker network citations. Claude and Google AI Overviews cited sub-DR40 domains in 1.8% of responses vs ChatGPT at 0.05%. Citation gains plateau around ~90 pickups for lower-authority domains. DR is a weak predictor. Another SEO/GEO divergence signal.
    • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ FogLift: tool recs concentrate; sources stay off-vendor
    • Unbranded buyer-intent: Otterly 58%, Profound 54%, Semrush 49%, Peak and Ahrefs 36% each. 33.3% of the leading citation layer came from off-vendor sources (YouTube, Reddit, SitePoint, G2). B2B SaaS playbook on tape: YouTube + Reddit + G2 (+ listicles).
    • ๐Ÿ“ก Ahrefs Brand Radar: 14M to 30M prompts
    • Sep 17: People Also Ask prompt set expanded from ~14M to 30M; entity extraction + top-entities widget; optional traffic model including AI Overviews. SEO giant flexing data scale. Brand Radar still not prompt-selectable. Skeptical Ahrefs wins GEO vs Profound on current product shape.
    • ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต QueryLift: Japan-focused GEO seed
    • Tokyo QueryLift raises 100M yen seed (JAFCO + Z Venture Capital). Monitors ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Google AI Overviews, then feeds observations into content workflows. First major Japan-focused GEO platform covered on the show.
    • ๐Ÿง  RadIntel Radar: predictive audience intelligence into authority content
    • Launched Sep 17: predictive audience intelligence into original reporting, executive perspectives, research, and multimedia. Framed across GEO and owned channels; may open to select brands/agencies. Content strategy from audience intelligence, not prompt-gap tracking.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If Profound owns half of GEO spend and only 1.2% of SaaS buyers are in the category, are you measuring concentration or measuring opportunity?

  • OpenAI Turns Ads Into Branded AI Agents

Welcome to episode 35 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten GEO stories: OpenAI sponsored agents that turn ChatGPT ads into branded AI conversations, HubSpot closing the ChatGPT Ads attribution loop, Profound Aim's marketing OS ambition, Peak Brand Perception, Google Merchant Center AI share of voice, Lululemon conversational attributes in AI Mode, Ahrefs France CTR erosion, Cited Index market saturation, Miraqo repeated-run sampling, and GeoJobs as a career path.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿค– OpenAI sponsored agents: ads become branded AI conversations
Selected advertisers can let a user click a ChatGPT ad and start a separate, clearly labeled conversation with an AI representative of the business. Prompt-based ad creation plus HubSpot and Shopify ad integrations. Limited alpha. Paid AI discovery now includes organic, paid, and branded agent tracking.

๐Ÿ”— HubSpot closes the ChatGPT Ads attribution loop
HubSpot is OpenAI's first CRM integration for ChatGPT ads: create campaigns in HubSpot, attribute contacts and deals to ChatGPT spend, send lifecycle and form signals back for optimization. Path toward CPA / value-based bidding / target ROAS off HubSpot pipeline. Paid AI discovery enters the same revenue attribution stack as Google, Meta, and LinkedIn.

๐Ÿš€ Profound Aim: AI marketing OS ambition
Fresh off $180M Series D / $1.8B valuation. Aim loops company data โ†’ problems/opportunities โ†’ plan โ†’ human approval โ†’ brief/draft โ†’ review โ†’ CMS publish โ†’ SoV/citation reporting. Ambition: canonical AI platform for marketing, not merely a GEO tool.

    ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Peak Brand Perception
Launched Sep 16: brand attributes, association + market prominence scores 0โ€“100, recurring objections traced to sources, fact-check vs brand-supplied claims. GEO as brand marketing, not a performance SEO channel.

๐Ÿ“Š Google Merchant Center AI share of voice
AI performance insights GA in AU/CA/IN/NZ/US. Share of voice across AI Mode + AI Overviews by funnel stage (discovery / consideration / action). Not Search Console yet; third-party SoV now head-to-head with Google's own.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Lululemon conversational attributes โ†’ AI Mode
Google testing: brand-submitted conversational attributes incorporated in 50% of relevant AI Mode product recommendations. Enrich Merchant Center feeds with contextual/conversational attributes.

๐Ÿ“‰ France AI Overviews CTR erosion (Ahrefs)
963 domains; domains with AI Overviews on >20% of queries: median โˆ’23.1% CTR; panel median โˆ’5.7%; adjusted effect โˆ’24.8%. Rankings/impressions can hold while traffic falls.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Cited Index: monitoring layer saturated
115 AI visibility/GEO products tracked; 109 ChatGPT, 101 Perplexity, 84 AI Overviews. More fragmented than SEO duopoly. Long tail must niche. Leaders: Profound, Peak, AirOps.

    ๐Ÿ” Miraqo repeated-run measurement
Agency SEO suite + AI visibility (AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity). Default 3 executions per assistant โ†’ share of voice. MCP connector. Paris: 3 beats 1; house bar is 30โ€“40 runs for <2% MoE.

๐Ÿ’ผ GeoJobs: GEO as a job function
Curated board (geography "geo"): 64 open roles (25 dedicated, 39 hybrid GEO+SEO); 16 remote, 31 US, 9 Europe. Slash titles โ†’ GEO overtakes SEO; GEO-first strategy wins both.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: When a ChatGPT ad opens a branded AI agent instead of a landing page, are you still buying impressions or are you buying the conversation?

  • LinkedIn and YouTube Dominate Social GEO Citations

Welcome to episode 33 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, debates social media's influence on GEO with co-host Simon Young of Stitch. Live SiteForge filters show LinkedIn and YouTube dominating social citations while Facebook, Instagram, and X lag, and ChatGPT versus Google AI Overviews still share almost zero overlapping citations.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ”Ž Does social media influence GEO?
Simon opens skeptical: no hard proof yet. Paris notes LinkedIn articles already appearing as citations. They open SiteForge Discovery on GEOforge's ~33,000 citation sources to test the question live.

๐Ÿ’ผ LinkedIn: ~1,200 citation sources, mostly Pulse
Filter to LinkedIn: ~1,198 unique pages. Vast majority are Pulse articles. That is why GEOforge Daily ships as LinkedIn articles: inbox reach plus citation surface.

    ๐Ÿ“ LinkedIn posts cite too
Posts are fewer than articles but still significant. Company posts (e.g. AthenaHQ) and personal-profile posts both appear. Paris had assumed ChatGPT could not reach posts without a logged-in feed; the data says otherwise.

๐Ÿ“Š Engagement vs citation: open study
Simon asks whether cited posts are high-engagement influencer posts. Paris commits to an MCP analysis on the GEOforge DB: correlation between LinkedIn post engagement and citation rate, report next session.

    โš–๏ธ Relevancy vs social proof
Primary should be exact answer to the prompt, even from obscure authors. Some social validation (likes/comments) may still be required to avoid zero-engagement spam. Working model: relevancy first, validation second.

    ๐Ÿ“˜ Facebook: only ~76 sources
Against ~1,200 LinkedIn, Facebook returns ~76. Mostly company pages (Neil Patel, Semrush, Searchable) plus public groups. Private groups are not crawlable; public groups are the only Facebook path that can feed citations.

    โ–ถ๏ธ YouTube wins: ~1,944 citations
Simon takes over 1,200; Paris under. Result: ~1,944 YouTube citations. YouTube dominates Google AI Overviews; LinkedIn is #1 social for ChatGPT B2B. Neither can be ignored.

    ๐Ÿ”€ Near-zero overlap across engines
Same prompt into ChatGPT vs Google AI Overviews often yields zero shared citations. AI Overviews lean YouTube; ChatGPT leans Reddit/LinkedIn. Client example: ~50% SOV in AI Overviews vs ~11% in ChatGPT. Blended SOV is almost meaningless.

    ๐• X / Twitter: effectively out
x.com domain filter polluted by substring matches (e.g. Wix). Almost no real tweet URLs. Paris: X largely blocks AI crawlers and keeps data for Grok. Not a B2B GEO pillar.

    ๐Ÿ“ธ Instagram: ~180, all Reels
~180 sources, every one a Reel. Likely Google AI Overviews, not ChatGPT. Video surface, not a LinkedIn-class B2B citation channel. Simon notes GEO Show cited as a strong source (eps 14 & 19) in a prior share.

    โœ… Interim conclusion
Social influences GEO as a strong offsite signal; LinkedIn + YouTube dominate. Signals are manipulable. LinkedIn articles = indexable UGC URLs; title and URL SEO still matter.

๐Ÿ” Listicle swap + LinkedIn republish test
Breakout GEO platforms page not citing yet. Plan: identical LinkedIn article + YouTube embed to juice social signals on a stronger domain surface. GEOforge Daily already embeds episode video via Grok bot.

๐Ÿค– Grok bots, HARO, PR automation
~20 bots. Daily HARO drafts for tech/business journalist queries. PR outreach automation; Simon's stack booked a podcast for a client untouched.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Particle Radar podcast transcript search
particle.pro Radar finds episodes mentioning GEO / AI search in transcripts. Thousands of pitch targets; GEO Show not listed yet in free view. Podcast โ†’ social proof โ†’ citations.

๐Ÿงฉ Exact-prompt stack needs information gain
Podcast title + YouTube title + LinkedIn article + site page matching the prompt is GEO keyword stuffing and may win exact-passage retrieval. Missing ingredient: information gain. Idea: ContentForge video-script format from BaseForge knowledge for Stitch.

๐Ÿงช Homework: zero-SOV Stitch video + engagement study
Test a Stitch prompt with zero SOV (e.g. Twilio WhatsApp alternatives): publish high-info-gain YouTube video. Paris: ContentForge video-script feature + LinkedIn engagement-to-citation study. Check-in next week; bet AI Overviews may surface exact-title video in days.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If LinkedIn and YouTube dominate social GEO citations in your category, are you still spreading B2B effort across Facebook, Instagram, and X as if they were equal?

  • Profound Hits $1.8B After $180M Series D

Welcome to episode 34 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers eight GEO stories: Profound's $180M Series D at $1.8B, BrightEdge Agent Edge at the CDN, Google's AI position-metric concession, third-party listicles, Brandy's human vs AI citation gap, directories on supplier prompts, Benchmark Bureau sampling stability, and MarketScale's mention vs citation split.

    In this episode:
    ๐Ÿฆ„ Profound Series D: $180M at $1.8B
Co-led by Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins, less than seven months after a $96M Series C near a $1B valuation. TechCrunch reports revenue tripled in six months. 1,000+ enterprise customers. Public pricing page removed. Rising tide for the GEO category.

๐ŸŒ BrightEdge Agent Edge on CloudFront
Detects 650+ AI agents; can serve markdown to AI agents while humans and traditional crawlers get HTML. Vendor-reported +30% AI referral traffic for one customer. Cloudflare has a parallel path. Most useful for JavaScript-heavy sites; clean HTML sites may see little lift.

๐Ÿ“Š Mueller: AI results are a block, not a position
Google's John Mueller: position is hard to make useful for AI features. Search Console Generative AI report tracks impressions/citations as a block. Tip: use Bing Webmaster Tools query fanouts to re-optimize already-cited pages.

    ๐Ÿ“‹ Third-party listicles: 85.8% of cold-start mentions
Search Engine Land: 85.8% of 437 source mentions from third-party listicles vs 14% brand listicle vs 0.2% PR. Roughly half of cited sources turned over in 30 days. GEOforge tactic: listicle swaps using a brand listicle as the barter chip.

โœ๏ธ Brandy: human pages ~5.7ร— AI pages in top citations
~900k AI answers / 4,210 cited pages. Top-25 human pages averaged 682 citations vs 119 for top-25 AI pages. Proprietary authorship classifier (correlation, not causation). Favor AI-assisted, human-edited content with information gain.

    ๐Ÿ“ Directories: 41% of supplier-prompt citations
citation.press: 3,850 commercial prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and AI Overviews. Sector directories 41% of citations vs 18% brand-owned. Structured directories 3.1ร— free-text. Commercial-interest caveat; still a clear offsite signal.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Benchmark Bureau: stable CRM recommendation sampling
    600 answers / 200 US B2B CRM prompts / 3 waves. HubSpot 86%, Salesforce ~60%, Zoho 53%. Kendall tau-b 0.861-0.940. OpenAI only. Paris parallels SignalForge's 40-run sampling (ยฑ2%, >95% confidence).

    ๐Ÿ”€ MarketScale: mentions โ‰  citations
399,088 AI responses; 112,677 brand mentions; 79,474 citations. ChatGPT ~30% mention / ~20% cite; Gemini ~25% / ~11%. 68% of mentions citation-backed. Split the signals. GEOforge overall SOV currently weights mentions 3:1 vs citations.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If Profound's Series D is a rising tide for GEO, are you still measuring mention rate and citation rate as one blended share of voice?

  • ChatGPT Ads Now Open Branded AI Agents

Welcome to episode 32 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten stories from the September 15 brief. The throughline: ChatGPT is testing ads that open branded business agents inside the chat instead of external landing pages.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿค– ChatGPT tests ads that open branded AI agents
Digiday (Sep 14): sponsored placement opens a branded business agent inside ChatGPT rather than an external landing page. Wayfair is in the pilot. Early commercial experiment, not a broad launch. Agents-in-conversation beat banners and classic CPC; better UX than ripping users out of chat.

๐Ÿ’„ Profound lands a global Estรฉe Lauder GEO deployment
Estรฉe Lauder Companies ร— Profound (Sep 14): full-portfolio deploy; first prestige beauty company to operationalize GEO globally at this scale. Enterprise GEO is brand marketing (representation and recommendation inside AI), not performance SEO. Experimental budgets are becoming global infrastructure.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Cloudflare AI crawler defaults take effect today
Effective Sep 15: allow AI search crawlers; block training and agent activity on ad pages for new domains; mixed-purpose inherit restrictive. Free customers without prefs affected. Unless you are a news publisher protecting content, allow bots to maximize inclusion surface. Check settings today.

๐Ÿ“ก Supertab Connect: AI traffic intelligence at the edge
Launched Sep 14. Classifies bots by operator, activity, and URL via Cloudflare, Fastly, CloudFront, WordPress, or SDK. Visibility/reporting, not blocking; retrieval vs agents vs training. AI bot intelligence sits between infrastructure and GEO analytics. Crawl is a citation prerequisite.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท Indexa enters AI brand visibility from Turkey
Istanbul Indexa tracks mentions, recommendations, citations, sentiment, AI share of voice. SEO+GEO merge with keyword-research-first workflow looks like a losing bet. GEO-first strategy and feature set win; keyword research has no place in GEO-first.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Comparison page jumped from 4 to 49 citations
Search Engine Land: 775 citation events. Owned comparison page adding leading competitors: 4โ†’49 citations (12ร—) without changing domain, author, or keyword. ~Half of cited sources drop within 30 days. Multi-competitor battle cards may beat simple A-vs-B pages.

๐Ÿ’ณ Stripe wins mentions; Airwallex wins owned citations
    5W: 297 answers ร— 24 payment prompts ร— 3 runs across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity. Stripe 80% answers / 13% own-domain citations; Airwallex 12% / 44.3%. Mentions > citations and not correlated; citation CTR way below 1%.

๐Ÿ“Š AirOps: citations correlate more with non-branded organic
Sep 14 synthesis of 6 studies / 87+ domains. AI citations correlate more with non-branded than branded organic (likely post-LLM Google validation). AI-referred convert better; citation effects appear quickly; freshness (last 6 months) punches above weight.

๐Ÿ“ก Ahrefs Brand Radar at ~457 million prompts
Search-backed monthly prompts across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot; Claude for custom. Connects visibility to analytics and AI bot traffic. Scale without true custom prompt discovery is unlikely to lead GEO in 6โ€“12 months.

๐Ÿงฉ TrustPoint Exposure packages GEO as five agents
Public launch Oct 1: lead gen, trust/authority, AI recommendations, deal conversion. Self-described certified PR agency for AI search (company claim, not independent credential). PR agencies are natural for off-site GEO; agent packaging is smart marketing.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If ChatGPT ads open branded agents instead of websites, is your media plan still optimizing for click-out landing pages?

  • Cloudflare's AI Crawler Defaults Flip Tomorrow

Welcome to episode 31 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten stories from the September 14 brief. The throughline: Cloudflare's September 15 AI crawler defaults make infrastructure configuration a real GEO variable.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Cloudflare AI crawler defaults flip tomorrow
New domains and free customers without a preference: allow AI search crawlers; block training and agent activity on ad pages; mixed search-plus-training inherits the stricter policy. Brands can gain or lose retrievability from a setting change, not content quality. Bot monitoring is now a critical GEO step.

๐Ÿ“ˆ AirOps Page 360 and AI revenue attribution
Page 360 joins AI visibility, GA4, and Google Search Console. Claim: 70% of AI-referred sessions can appear as direct in GA4. Teams need software attribution plus self-reported "How did you hear about us?" Brand-search paths from unlinked LLM recommendations still get missed.

๐Ÿง  Perplexity: frontier models improve search retrieval
Johnny Ho: GPT-6 Astra coding gains help Perplexity write better search programs, summarize, and run workflows more autonomously. Model updates change retrieval, source selection, fan-outs, and synthesis. Annotate model-change dates when visibility swings.

๐Ÿค– Lantad robots.txt: training vs search split
1,027 hostnames requested; 718 parsed. Root blocks: GPTBot 82, CCBot 80, Bytespider 76, ClaudeBot 75. 59/718 blocked GPTBot while allowing OpenAI search. Blocking search bots โ‰ˆ opting out of live RAG. Most brands should allow both unless they are large news publishers.

๐Ÿ“‰ 47% of businesses invisible across five engines
Start Solutions: 36 businesses ร— ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Mode, Perplexity. 17 (47%) named by none; only 2 in all five. Aggregate inclusion looked close (33โ€“17%) but overlap was poor. Report share of voice model by model.

๐Ÿ“š UW revises Wikipedia AI Overview traffic impact
Default Google AI Overviews reduced EN Wikipedia referrals ~5.45% vs DE and ~4.82% vs FR, replacing a substantially larger earlier estimate. Serious impact studies can swing when methods improve.

๐Ÿ”Œ Serva and the GEO data-provider layer
Brand mentions via SERP API prompts + DataForSEO LLM mentions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews. GEO platforms increasingly sit on these providers, not engine APIs. Keywordโ†’prompt volume estimates remain flawed.

๐Ÿ—พ Japan Inbound AI Visibility (tourism vertical)
56 Product: 8 English travel queries daily ร— 14 regions via OpenAI Responses API. Hokuriku 7/8; 12/14 appeared โ‰ฅ1. GEO is verticalizing into industry-specific outcomes.

๐Ÿš— Horizon Creator embeds GEO in automotive content
VIN + dealership data โ†’ scripts, compliance, content OS. Vertical software treats GEO as an output of workflow-specific content systems, not a standalone tool category.

๐Ÿงฉ Workaholic consolidates marketing point tools
AI content, SEO, email, PPC, and analytics unified in one OS. Structural pressure as AirOps and Profound absorb capabilities toward marketing systems of record.

  • Real AI Prompts Aren't Keywords

Welcome to episode 30 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten stories from the September 13 brief. The throughline: real AI prompts look like conversations, not SEO keywords.

    In this episode:

    • ๐Ÿงญ AirOps Quill AI agent captain
AirOps launched Quill to find AI search gaps, execute changes, measure results, and learn from prior runs. Asana +93% ChatGPT citations in two weeks; Parallel +165%. Complex GEO tools need an agent captain (GEOforge's equivalent: Veck).
    • ๐Ÿ“‰ Reddit ChatGPT citations hit zero after robots.txt
BrightEdge fixed US education panel: Reddit ChatGPT citation presence 17%โ†’3%โ†’0% over two weeks after a robots.txt change. Timing supports the mechanism, not proven causation. Steeper than AI Overviews. Access policy can erase visibility without content changes.
    • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Zero-citation answers can still recommend brands
Ospia: ChatGPT returned zero citations on 12/20 answers yet named a vendor in 13/20. Gemini median 47 annotations; Perplexity 20. Mentions โ‰  citations. Mentions are the GEO prize and get heavier weight in share of voice.
    • ๐Ÿ”Œ Google partner-only full web search API
JSON REST/gRPC full web search for approved partners (docs surfaced Sep 11). Eligibility/pricing unclear. Search as programmable agent infrastructure.
    • ๐Ÿ“ˆ LinkedIn jumps in Meltwater AI citation rankings
~7.3M citations / 8 platforms. LinkedIn +25% MoM to 100.2k; Perplexity alone 69,302 LinkedIn citations. Earned/news 33%โ†’29%. Facebook โˆ’30%, Instagram โˆ’43%. Supports B2B LinkedIn article strategy (GEOforge Daily).
    • ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ Context7 agent access tracking
Docs7 tracks visits from OpenAI, Claude, Perplexity, Cursor, OpenCode, Meta, Mistral, plus WebMCP SearchDocs separately. Agent request โ‰  citation or final-answer use.
    • ๐Ÿง  THROUGHLINE: Real prompts aren't keywords
What If Web: 300 New Zealanders / 1,200+ self-reported prompts. Median 9โ€“14 words. <10% keyword-like. One survey: only 2% named a brand. Directional (self-reported, 3 categories) but keywordโ†’prompt volume extrapolation is the wrong model.
    • ๐Ÿ” 95% of consumers verify AI search results elsewhere
Trade Desk / PA Consulting: 95% double-check AI results; 1.6ร— more likely to purchase on the open internet than via AI tools (3,000 US/UK). Lack of solution links in answers drives verification searches.
    • โš–๏ธ A-vs-B brand-first bias fails replication
Ospia: 102 AI Overview queries / 16 brand pairs. Word order changed recommendation in 0/16. First brand first 49% (coin toss). Query phrasing and surface mattered more.
    • ๐Ÿ“Š Profound Sheets Templates โ€” agents at spreadsheet scale
Sep 11 launch. Thousands of agents in parallel. Templates: translation, refresh, GEO FAQs, internal linking, briefs, PDP. Analyticsโ†’execution via narrow task agents (same architecture direction as GEOforge).

  • Low Confidence AI Visibility Scores are Plaguing GEO

Welcome to episode 29 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, covers ten stories from the September 12 weekend brief. The throughline: low-confidence AI visibility scores from tiny prompt sets and one-run sampling are plaguing GEO measurement.

    In this episode:

    • ๐Ÿ“Š Peak AI Referrals + My Website
Peak connects GA4 for sessions, engagement, conversions, and revenue, and My Website joins server logs, prompt tracking, and GA4 from crawl to cite to visit to conversion. Visibility-only dashboards are becoming insufficient. Full-funnel attribution is the destination.
    • ๐Ÿงญ Ahrefs Brand Radar โ†’ programmable Topics
Ahrefs shipped an AI response API, entities/exports, Report Builder, and a Topics report that groups queries by parent topic to show angles a brand owns or misses. An SEO incumbent is absorbing GEO monitoring.
    • ๐Ÿ“‰ THROUGHLINE: Otterly โ€” small prompt sets are noisy
252,407 answers / 520 prompts / 7 engines. Moving from 10 to 100 prompts cut brand-coverage variation about 73%. 48% of cited URLs appeared once; the top 1% drove 44% of citations. Still one run per prompt per engine per day. GEOforge's bar: about 30โ€“40 runs for 95% confidence / ยฑ2% MOE. Cheap tools price on one-run sampling.
    • ๐Ÿ“„ Rank Masters citation concentration
      6,831 owned citations / 64 commercial prompts / 90 days. Five URLs produced 52% of citations; 20 URLs produced 90%. Gemini 64% / Perplexity 20% / ChatGPT 15%. Single B2B site caveat, but a stark power-law GEO content signal.
    • ๐Ÿ” Pallas AI launch
Nine-engine monitoring, Shopify, marketing context OS, fetchable/chosen/extractable gates, and a watchโ†’decideโ†’actโ†’review loop. Architecture close to GEOforge. Paris likes the loop.
    • ๐Ÿ”€ Brand Ghost engine disagreement
7,473 citations / 4 engines. Source overlap ~12.9%. Recommendation overlap 11.2%. 50.7% of comparable sets shared no brands. Blended SOV can hide engine risk (client case: AI Overviews +50% while ChatGPT and AI Mode slightly negative). Split ChatGPT vs Google AI Mode/Overviews.
    • ๐Ÿงพ M11 Labs โ€” agentic commerce ranks proof
Stealth exit with an agentic trust platform. Skincare study: 600+ brands / 15k+ evidence captures. 47% lacked independent evidence; 58% of claims cite non-public research; 1 in 20 evidence links confirm the claim. Full report Sep 16. Paris: AI visibility is early innings and may look like rank tracking vanity later.
    • ๐Ÿ›’ Instacart Clementine
Conversation, recipe, or list becomes a ready-to-buy cart across US and Canada. Cart tech also on retailer properties. Possible no referral click between recommendation and transaction. Prep product data and attributes for agents.
    • ๐Ÿ“ˆ Google AI Max vs DSA
DSA sunset delayed to Feb 2027; ACA and campaign broad match auto-migrate to AI Max in Sep 2026. Internal non-retail: +7% conversions/value at similar CPA/ROAS. AI choosing queries, creative, and landing pages.
    • ๐Ÿงฐ Elmo open-source GEO tracking
MIT self-hostable tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, and AI Overviews (~319 stars / 75 forks). Prompt tracking is commodity. Moat: proprietary knowledge, statistical certainty, decision intelligence, execution, off-site citation building.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the platform changes and citation mechanics that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If your AI visibility tool still samples about 10 prompts once a day, what confidence interval do you think you are buying?
