  • Video UGC Just Became Machine-Readable GEO

Welcome to episode 18 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, walks through a Friday, September 4, 2026 docket that starts with Gemini citation bugs and engine disagreement, then hits the biggest unlock of the day: turning video UGC into machine-readable GEO content, before closing on Cloudflare's September 15 default AI crawler block.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ› Google says Gemini 3.8 citation gaps are a bug
Early Gemini 3.8 Flash testing in Google AI Mode showed many top-of-funnel answers with no links or citations. Google Search VP Robbie Stein said that is not working as intended and a fix is coming. Annotate share of voice swings that may have nothing to do with your GEO work.

๐Ÿ“Š AI engines can disagree nearly 2x on whether a B2B brand exists
Treyci analyzed more than 1,200 scored AI answers. In one B2B software category, tracked brands appeared in 81% of answers from one engine versus 43% from another. A single ChatGPT visibility score is almost meaningless. Report engine-level share of voice and weight engines by where buyers actually research.

๐Ÿ“ˆ A 12-month GEO field study finds no special AI hack
The HOTH says its strongest citation gains across dozens of campaigns came from technical accessibility, deeper commercial content, earned media, and authority. On its own data, AI-referred visitors converted at 22.79% versus 2.45% for standard organic. Roughly a 10x conversion gap. GEO looks less like a replacement for SEO and more like a different weighting of authority signals.

๐Ÿงญ Botify adds competitor citation intelligence
Botify added competitor mention and citation share of voice, including which domains generate competitor citations, plus semantic grouping of related prompts. Measurement alone is not a moat. AI visibility monitoring is becoming a commodity inside SEO suites. Value is moving to the execution layer.

Video UGC is becoming machine-readable GEO
Reported via the National Law Review, VideoWise launched tools that convert TikTok, Instagram, and user-generated video into structured content AI systems can retrieve and cite, including YouTube GEO. Paris called this the biggest story of the day: unlock proprietary knowledge stuck in webinars, customer interviews, demos, and SME videos by transcribing, structuring, and making it crawlable.

โš ๏ธ ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok went down almost together
On September 3, ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok experienced outages in roughly the same morning window. No shared cause confirmed. OpenAI pointed to a routine error. Treat AI engines as infrastructure, and annotate odd measurement windows the same way you would a Gemini bug.

๐Ÿงช New evidence weakens schema as a GEO citation layer
Search Engine Land reviewed evidence including an Ahrefs test of 1,885 pages adding JSON-LD. No meaningful citation uplift across ChatGPT, AI Mode, or AI Overviews. AI Overview citations declined 4.6% in the tested cohort. Cited pages on AI Overview SERPs generated roughly 120% more clicks per impression than uncited pages. Schema still helps machine clarity. The evidence does not show it drives citations.

๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Moonshot AI's Kimi ecosystem is preparing for a possible $3B IPO
Reuters: Moonshot AI confidentially filed for a Hong Kong IPO that could raise about $3 billion, with valuation around $50 billion in an ongoing funding round. Do not assume AI search stays a four-engine Western market. Especially for APAC, plan market-specific engine coverage.

๐Ÿง  Profound moves from measurement toward a business knowledge brain
Profound published Context Manager Structure on September 1 (corroborated by Search Engine Watch on September 3): brand context, personal context, knowledge base, and synced data across Gong, Slack, and email, auto-distilled into six brand records. Enterprise only at launch. Architectural cousin to GEOforge BaseForge knowledge ingestion.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ AirOps is repositioning as platform plus services
CEO Alex Halladay's September 2 post says AirOps is combining platform with channel expert services across owned, earned, AI ads, community, and social/influencer, tied to pipeline. Proprietary figures cited: 6 billion citations, 47 million actions, 1.5 billion prompts tracked; 86.6% of marketing leaders prioritize AI search, only 23.2% feel confident measuring it. A hedge against tool commoditization.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Cloudflare will default-block certain AI crawlers on September 15
Effective September 15 (announced July 1), Cloudflare will by default block training and agent category AI bots, but not search category bots, on ad-monetized pages for new domains. Multipurpose crawlers such as Googlebot, Applebot, and Bingbot can get blocked for customers who choose to block training. Paris's policy: allow legitimate bots, watch for spoofing, manage the new default consciously.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If your best answers still live only as MP4s, what is stopping you from transcribing and structuring them this week?

  • Perplexity Is Citing Pages Google Would Ignore

Welcome to episode 17 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, walks through a Thursday, September 3, 2026 docket that starts with Perplexity citing mass-generated best-software pages, then moves through model-version visibility, recommendation versus citation, vendor deals, and bot management as part of the GEO stack.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ“‰ Perplexity is citing pages Google would ignore

Trelner tested 380 software categories across Perplexity, Sonar, and Sonar Pro and collected 7,534 citations. 59.8% came from domains outside the top 100,000 on Tranco Traffic. GuideFlow, a product demo vendor, was the third most cited domain, ahead of Gartner. Three related sites held 215,128 generated best-category software pages, some titled "Facts and Grounding Page." Retrieval can reward sources with little conventional authority if they align with machine retrieval. SEO authority and GEO citation authority are diverging. Audit which URLs ground competitor recommendations, not just backlinks.

โšก Google AI Mode is rolling Gemini 3.8 Flash

Search Engine Land: Google began rolling Gemini 3.8 Flash into AI Mode for Google AI Pro and Ultra users globally. The model is described as materially improved in multi-step reasoning and agentic tasks. AI search visibility is partly model-version dependent. A prompt benchmark can shift without the brand changing anything. Record model and date in GEO measurement and rerun controlled baselines after major model changes.

๐ŸŽฏ Citations are intermediate. Recommendation is the goal

At Search Seoul, Yoonhee Choi, RTN's SEO director, argued GEO should move from get-cited toward make-AI-choose-us: structure the relationships among brand, product, capabilities, user needs, and use cases so AI knows when to recommend a brand. Knowledge structuring and ontology beat publishing more AI-friendly text. Inside GEOforge, SignalForge weights a mention 3x a citation in Share of Voice.

    ๐Ÿข Adobe acquired Rilo

Adobe acquired India-based Rilo in a licensing/team transaction. Terms undisclosed. Rilo built agentic workflows for competitor intelligence, content repurposing and distribution, and sales call analysis. More than 10,000 people had tried the product. The six-person team plus parts of its IP move into Adobe. Rilo itself shuts down. Follows Adobe's Semrush deal. Big platforms are assembling an AI marketing operating layer.

๐Ÿ“Š Brainlabs: less volume, stronger intent

Brainlabs analyzed Google Analytics from 54 clients across 19 sectors. Organic sessions fell 10.5%. AI platform referrals rose 163%. AI-driven key events rose 335%, with AI referrals generating key events at 1.5x the organic search rate. Brainlabs associates the inflection with wider AI Overview adoption. The dataset does not establish causation. Sessions are a poorer proxy. Track visibility, recommendation, qualified visits, and pipeline.

๐Ÿ”€ SEO Pulse: engines do not pick the same vendor

SEO Pulse tested 1,500 commercial prompts. Different AI engines selected the exact same top vendor in under 1.5% of queries. More than 50% of answers mentioned brands. About 10% both mentioned and cited one. Consumer-style sessions, not API-only, covering Western and Asian engines. Do not blend share of voice across engines. SignalForge runs 40 times per prompt for under 2% margin of error.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Yext Scout moved from tracking into actions

Yext expanded Scout from visibility tracking into brand-level GEO / AI search visibility and actions across listings, reviews, social, and its knowledge graph, plus Corvo AI for SMBs. Internal 147% visibility increase. One customer doubled inbound leads. Measurement and diagnosis are table stakes. Differentiation is execution. A dashboard-only GEO service has a short shelf life.

๐Ÿ—„๏ธ Dun & Bradstreet is feeding Perplexity via MCP

D&B integrated its commercial graph and risk analytics with Perplexity Computer using Model Context Protocol, making verified corporate identity, relationships, and risk information directly accessible to AI workflows. GEO now includes licensed databases, APIs, and MCP connectors, not only websites. Feed brand knowledge directly rather than hoping a crawler formats it.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Huskies raised $27M. A bad WAF can make you invisible

Blackstone Innovation Investments led a $27 million Series A in Huskies, valuing it above $100 million (Wall Street Journal). Bot management is intertwined with AI discoverability. Brands want legitimate AI retrieval while blocking malicious automation. A badly configured web application firewall can make a brand invisible. Cloudflare is part of the GEO stack. AI crawler accessibility plus bot security belongs in technical GEO audits.

๐Ÿ“‹ Kevin Indig: earn the recommendation from somebody else

Kevin Indig analyzed 3,000 ranking listicles in a 60,000-query set. Publishers accounted for 46.8% of highest-ranking listicles versus 19% for brands. AI Overviews appeared on 93.4% of B2B queries. Freshness showed the strongest stable association with high rankings. Putting your own product first did not independently explain performance. 50-best pages can still work in SEO. Self-serving comparison content is not a defensible GEO advantage. Combine freshness with third-party proof. Earn the recommendation from somebody else.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If 59.8% of the citations grounding a buying answer sit outside the top 100,000 domains, would you still call domain authority your GEO KPI?

  • Ranking Doesn't Equal Recommendation

Welcome to episode 16 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, walks through a Wednesday, September 2, 2026 docket that starts with organic rank and AI recommendations decoupling, then moves through vendor consolidation, structured sources, and agencies productizing GEO.

    In this episode:

    ๐Ÿ“‰ Ranking doesn't equal recommendation
Cleanlist tested 205 B2B data and go-to-market queries. It ranked in the organic top 10 for 30 queries and was named in only two AI Overviews. Lusha ranked top 10 for six queries and was named 18 times. Across vendors, organic top-10 presence correlated 0.51 with brand mentions versus 0.86 for third-party pages naming the vendor. SEO ranking can help retrieval. Ranking does not equal recommendation. Track organic rank, owned citations, third-party corroboration, and brand recommendation share separately. Get indexed. Do not treat first-page rank as the finish line.

๐Ÿข Yext bought GEO instead of building it
Yext disclosed a $1.1 million cash acquisition of GoShine AI on June 14 and is integrating it as Brand Scout. Established search tech vendors are buying GEO capabilities. Pure AI visibility dashboards are becoming features inside larger platforms.

    โญ Bazaarvoice made UGC machine-readable
Bazaarvoice launched an AI visibility package that converts reviews, ratings, and other user-generated content into machine-readable formats. GlobeNewswire: vendor-reported median 40% increase in AI-referred traffic among clients on the underlying infrastructure. Structured customer evidence is a GEO asset, not only conversion content.

๐Ÿค– Optimizely's SEO and AI search analyst is agentic
Optimizely's virtual teammates include an SEO and AI search analyst that monitors traditional and GEO / AI search visibility, identifies opportunities, and takes action. Manual auditing and reporting is commoditizing. Agencies need proprietary research, experimentation, and execution to defend margins.

๐Ÿงน LeanData: agents are outrunning CRM hygiene
LeanData surveyed 157 go-to-market practitioners. 79% are deploying or scaling AI agents. 70% say poor data quality is undermining results. 45% blamed inconsistent CRM data when AI initiatives fail. Clean CRM data, clear product facts, customer evidence, and structured knowledge are prerequisites for reliable agentic AI marketing.

๐Ÿฅ OpenAI is bypassing the open web with structured sources
OpenAI added Epic health record integration and a healthcare public data plugin with structured access to PubMed, DailyMed, and CMS data inside ChatGPT for healthcare. Future answers will retrieve from direct structured sources, not only web pages. Think APIs, feeds, knowledge bases, and MCP endpoints as distribution.

๐Ÿ’ป Perplexity hybrid compute mixes cloud search with local files
Perplexity launched hybrid compute for Mac: cloud reasoning and search, sensitive files handled locally through a privacy gate. AI buying research may blend public information with a prospect's own contracts, spreadsheets, and vendor docs. GEO content has to survive a comparison against private buyer context, not just competitor sites.

๐Ÿ” AIR Security raised $50M for agent supply-chain security
AIR Security emerged from stealth with $50 million across two seed rounds to discover and vet skills, plugins, and MCP servers used by enterprise AI agents. MCP and tool security is becoming its own cybersecurity category, and a content and demand-gen opening for cyber clients.

๐Ÿงฐ "We offer GEO" is no longer a differentiator
Gutenberg launched a dedicated AI visibility service. Global Communication Works launched Signal Labs to get brands recommended across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Perplexity. Advantage moves to proprietary data capture like BaseForge inside GEOforge, repeatable measurement, off-site citation acquisition, and CRM self-reported attribution: a box that says the buyer found you through an AI chatbot.

๐Ÿ“˜ Google Developer Knowledge is the SaaS GEO blueprint
Google's Developer Knowledge API and MCP corpus expanded, with generally available filtering on August 27 after new corpus additions and relevance scoring. Agents retrieve official docs directly rather than from search results or training memory. Make authoritative knowledge directly retrievable.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If you ranked top 10 for 30 queries and got named twice, would you still call rank your GEO KPI?

  • Power Users Have Flipped to Voice Prompting

Welcome to episode 15 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, sits down with Simon Young of Stitch, a GEOforge partner in the UK, the day after the bank holiday. The throughline: power users have flipped to voice prompting, stream-of-consciousness voice beats typed prompts, token usage anxiety is the bottleneck, and always-on ambient voice will explode token demand.

    In this episode:

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Power users have already flipped to voice

Simon has moved to nearly all voice over the last three months. Paris is majority voice. The first prompt is the long one, spoken. Short follow-ups still get typed. Most marketers are still polishing typed prompts. Paris and Simon are out in front of that curve.

    ๐Ÿง  Stream-of-consciousness beats a typed prompt

Paris hits a SuperWhisper hotkey before the thought is finished, talks, takes it back, and lets the model hear the whole process. Versus a well-thought-through typed prompt, the output is night and day. Simon spoke one prompt that ran Stitch studio images, GoHighLevel, a live blog check, and three scheduled social posts across three weeks.

    ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Token usage anxiety (TUA)

Paris burned his Claude weekly tokens on Sunday afternoon and spent Monday as a lost puppy. He would not buy extra credits. He forced the work onto GrokBot, which generated and published episode 14 while he was at lunch. Simon named TUA on tape and called usage limits a 2027 marketing talking point. No warning that the workflow will not finish. The product wants the top-up.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ SiteForge has the targets, ContentForge has the payload

Join them and high information gain content takes an earned path to publishers, not only an owned path to your blog. Simon already recycles a GEOforge blog into different social posts across three weeks. In a room of 100 recruitment-business owners, everyone used AI and about 10% had automated it.

๐Ÿ“ก Always-on ambient voice will explode token demand

Pocket devices and a rumored screenless OpenAI product push AI from reactive to proactive. If context is every word spoken around you all day, token demand multiplies. Paris does not know how we pay for that if price per token stays here.

If this conversation is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the studies, platform changes, and citation data that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If you still type your first prompt like an essay, have you actually tried speaking it as stream of consciousness?

  • Google's AI Search Reports Are Now Global

Welcome to episode 14 of The GEO Show, the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, walks through nine stories from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, starting with Google Search Console's Generative AI reports going worldwide.

    In this episode:

๐ŸŒ Search Console Generative AI reports are now worldwide
Google says Search Console's Generative AI performance reports and Generative AI inclusion control are available worldwide. The reports expose AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover AI impressions by page, country, date, and device. Still no clicks. Still no queries. Paris called this the biggest GEO measurement upgrade Google has shipped. Third-party trackers finally have a first-party benchmark. We already report AI search impressions, meaning citation appearances at the page level, inside SignalForge. We would still like query fan-out data if Google will ship it.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ The EU classified ChatGPT as a search engine
The European Commission designated ChatGPT as a very large online search engine, a VLOSE, under the Digital Services Act after it crossed 45 million EU users. OpenAI has four months to meet additional systemic risk obligations. In the EU's eyes it is no longer a chatbot. Expect more scrutiny on recommendation systems, transparency, and information integrity.

๐Ÿ’ฐ ChatGPT Ads hit $1B ARR in under 200 days
OpenAI said ChatGPT Ads reached $1 billion in annualized revenue run rate in under 200 days, with tens of thousands of advertisers. Self-service ads manager access is expanding across Europe, India, the Middle East, and North Africa. Paris got the Europe launch email the morning of the recording. AI discovery now has two markets: GEO (organic, earned recommendations) and paid conversational inventory. This is starting to look like SEO and PPC. Keep paid ChatGPT performance completely separate from organic GEO. Compare them on cost per opportunity and pipeline quality, and against Google Search.

    ๐Ÿ” Cyber GEO is engine-specific
BrightEdge's US B2B tech sample found NIST was ChatGPT's most cited domain and CISA ranked fourth, while YouTube ranked first in Google AI answers, appearing in roughly two-thirds of tracked prompts. ChatGPT leans on institutional evidence in cybersecurity. Google AI answers and AI Mode still lean on YouTube. Cyber GEO needs institutional corroboration for ChatGPT and authoritative video for Google AI properties.

๐Ÿ“ˆ ChatGPT 5.6 fan-outs jumped, listicles did not die
Nective reran about 4,000 prompts. ChatGPT fan-out queries rose from 2.17 to 7.6 per prompt, about 3x to 4x, and Sitecone appeared in 64% of searches. Peak AI found listicle citation share falling from 15.77% to 7.8%, while total cited sources per response roughly doubled. Listicle share fell by about half inside a much larger retrieval pool. Do not rush the headline that ChatGPT killed listicles. Long live the listicles for now.

๐Ÿ’ผ Reddit is consensus. LinkedIn is attributable expertise
Octopost audited 63 B2B companies and 27,181 citations. Reddit produced 55.8% of social citations. When AI answers cited a named individual, 74% of those people were sourced from LinkedIn. Company pages were only 6.7% of social citations. Use technical experts and executives on LinkedIn for quotable authority. Treat Reddit as a practitioner reputation environment, not a link placement channel.

๐Ÿ“Š Mentioned and cited are different KPIs
MarketScale analyzed 323,667 AI responses. ChatGPT mentioned brands in 28.4% of answers and cited those same brands in 21.5%. Gemini showed the widest gap: 23.7% mentions versus 11.6% citations. Perplexity showed almost no gap. Engines can know and recommend a company without using that company's site as evidence. Mention rate is far more valuable. Report mention share, citation share, recommendation share, and citation ownership separately.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Qlipto raised $15M to index more than web pages
TechCrunch: Qlipto raised $15 million at a $250 million valuation. It indexes video, audio, images, meetings, and documents for natural language and AI agent search, and added MCP support so ChatGPT, Claude, and other agents can retrieve authorized local content. Feed SME interviews, webinars, podcasts, and product videos as a structured knowledge corpus, not just campaign assets.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the studies, platform changes, and citation data that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: Now that Search Console can show AI impressions by page, are you still treating a third-party dashboard as the source of truth?

  • Most AI Citations Don't Survive 6 Weeks

Welcome to episode 11 of The GEO Show, the first weekend edition of the briefing on generative engine optimization, LLM citations, and AI search visibility. Recorded Sunday, August 30, 2026. Brought to you by GEOforge.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEO Forge, walks through nine stories from the week, from Google auto-expanding some AI answers to a six-week citation rerun that should end the habit of celebrating a one-time win.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿ” Google is auto-expanding some AI answers Search Engine Land reports that Google now expands some AI answers automatically, skipping Show More and pushing organic results further down when its systems predict the expanded answer will be useful. Rank alone is becoming a weaker visibility metric. We need to track whether brands are cited, mentioned, recommended, and clicked inside the AI layer.

๐Ÿ“‰ Coverage up, citation slots down, 40% retention Organic KPI reran the same 160 commercial queries six weeks apart. Coverage of Google AI answers rose from 72.5% to 80.6%. Total citation slots fell 12.5%. A 20-query B2B SaaS sample hit 100% coverage. Median source retention after six weeks: 40%. Never celebrate winning a citation once. Measure citation persistence.

๐ŸŽฏ First-touch analysis misses 85% of AI-influenced leads Omniscient Digital compared CRM attribution with self-reported acquisition data. Of 189 leads who said AI influenced them, only 28 (15%) were classified as AI referrals in the CRM. Most appeared as organic or direct. 87% of AI citations mentioning the company lived on third-party pages. Add "How did you hear about us?", confirm it on sales calls, and measure brand-search lift.

โš™๏ธ Salesforce puts Claude on the CRM Salesforce and Anthropic launched CloudForce: Claude as an interface to Salesforce, with 37 pre-built sales skills that can interrogate CRM data, evaluate pipeline, and take governed actions. Open beta is expected in September. SaaS interfaces are becoming back-end infrastructure for AI agents. The next evolution after GEO is agent discoverability and operability: APIs, MCP, documentation, permission-aware actions.

๐Ÿ”Œ Semrush ships an official Claude connector On 26 August, Semrush launched an official Claude connector so customers can query keyword, backlink, competitive, and AI visibility data conversationally. The connected dataset: 28.8 billion keywords, 43 trillion backlinks, 317 million LLM prompts. Ahrefs already had a connector. SEO dashboards are becoming data layers behind agents. Routine reporting commoditizes. Human value moves to strategy, experimentation, and interpretation.

๐Ÿ“ฐ Publisher licensing may shape ChatGPT citations Press Ranger and Otterly AI matched 129.3 million citations against 91 confirmed publisher licensing agreements. Publishers with OpenAI deals averaged 48% more ChatGPT citations per cited page. OpenAI-only licenses showed a 112% difference. The same home-platform effect did not appear for Google or Perplexity. Citation ecosystems may be shaped by commercial content access, not just page-level optimization. Treat earned media as non-interchangeable, especially for ChatGPT.

๐Ÿงช Removing Google AI answers increased publisher CTR A pre-registered arXiv field experiment with 1,100 participants found that removing Google AI answers and Google AI Mode increased publisher click-through rates. An AI Mode-only experience reduced publisher traffic and lowered reported user experience and trust. That is causal evidence, not just correlation: AI search changes click behavior. Organic sessions can decline while visibility rises.

๐Ÿงญ BCG: AI is rewriting the consideration set BCG reported on 26 August that nearly one-third of surveyed customers now use AI somewhere in the purchase journey. AI introduced users to brands they would not have considered in roughly 63% of AI-assisted journeys. Measure where the brand appears in real bottom-of-funnel comparative prompts: best X for Y, alternatives to X, which vendor to shortlist.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Cairrot 2.0 moves from dashboard to prescribed execution Cairrot (C-A-I-R-R-O-T) shipped 2.0 on 28 August with more than 20 GEO and AI-search capabilities plus an insights engine meant to turn visibility data into prioritized, prescribed GEO actions. The category is moving from dashboard to diagnosis to prescribed execution. Pure monitoring is hard to defend as premium agency work. The moat is proprietary knowledge, offsite authority, implementation, testing, and revenue attribution.

If this briefing is useful, subscribe to The GEO Show so we can keep walking through the studies, platform changes, and citation data that actually move AI visibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If median source retention is 40% after six weeks, what does your GEO report still call a win?

  • 17,400 AI Citations Produced Just 167 Clicks

Welcome to Episode 12 of The GEO Show, where we break down the biggest developments in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), AI search, and the rapidly changing world of SEO.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, runs through nine stories shaping AI visibility, starting with data showing that 17,400 Microsoft Copilot citations produced only 167 Bing clicks.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿงญ Searchable expands into the US and bets on prompt discovery
UK AI visibility startup Searchable opened a Salt Lake City office, hired two former Scrunch employees, and said it had grown from nearly 1,000 customers in May into the thousands. Its planned Prompt Universe product points at a harder and more defensible problem for GEO software: deciding which prompts actually matter.

๐Ÿ“‰ 17,400 Copilot citations produce only 167 Bing clicks
Wito reported 17,400 Microsoft Copilot citations across 127 pages over three months, but Bing generated only 167 clicks. That is roughly 104 citations per click. Citation volume is an exposure signal, not a traffic KPI, and GEO reporting must connect visibility to branded search, assisted conversions, demos, and pipeline.

๐Ÿค– AI crawler traffic swings without a site change
Across 36 days of server logs, AI Tools Recap saw its ChatGPT crawl index fall from 100 to 31 while Claude rose to 242 and Google stayed close to baseline. Monitor crawler mix by engine before treating one platform's decline as a sitewide technical problem.

    ๐Ÿ“ A new GEO entrant proposes a three-variable framework
ksmmodel.ai launched an assessment framework based on structured extractability, entity salience, and citation authority. As vendors compete on framework ownership, proprietary scoring only matters when it connects recommendations to measurable outcomes and reflects a defensible point of view.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Link building, digital PR, and GEO converge
Search Engine Land argues that 2027 link building should favor earned stories, original data, journalist relationships, brand mentions, and placements that influence both people and LLMs. The old wall between SEO link building and PR is collapsing into one earned-authority program.

๐Ÿ” More than 100 companies warn about AI-enabled cyberattacks
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Okta, Fortinet, and others signed a joint call for stronger cyber defense. Website security belongs inside GEO risk management because compromised pages can introduce spam, redirects, false information, and brand-integrity problems that damage retrieval and trust.

๐Ÿง  Former Google AI Search leaders raise $43 million
DeepCogito raised a $43 million Series A, bringing total funding above $56 million, with Zscaler participating as both customer and strategic investor. The deal reinforces the shift toward post-trained enterprise models grounded in proprietary company knowledge rather than one general public model.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ AI tool preference differs by generation
YouGov data reported by Search Engine Journal shows ChatGPT leading every age group, while Claude preference reaches 10.6% among Gen Z versus 1.4% among Boomers+. Copilot shows the reverse pattern. Engine prioritization should follow the audience buying the product, not a universal platform checklist.

๐ŸŒ Korean citation data dismantles a universal Reddit playbook
RankIt AI tested 33 Korean purchase-intent responses containing 492 citations and found zero citations from Reddit, Naver Blog, Tistory, or NamuWiki; roughly 80% came from vendor and official sources. International GEO programs need source maps built for each market, language, query class, and LLM engine.

Subscribe to The GEO Show for ongoing analysis of the news, experiments, strategies, and emerging tactics shaping visibility across ChatGPT, Google AI, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, and the rest of the AI search ecosystem.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If your citation count doubled tomorrow but clicks and pipeline stayed flat, would your team still call the GEO program a success?

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEO Forge, walks through nine stories from the week, from engine-specific citation overlap to Particle Radar making more than 130,000 podcasts machine-searchable.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿงฉ Brand Ghost: 13.8% overlap, 46% share no brands Brand Ghost's 28 August run analyzed 7,514 citations. Cross-engine source overlap across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity was only 13.8%. Forty-six percent of comparable recommendation sets shared no brands at all. A blended AI-visibility score hides huge engine differences. We need engine-specific source and recommendation strategies. ChatGPT has favored content partners. Gemini and Google AI Mode, particularly AI Mode, strongly favor YouTube.

โ™Ÿ๏ธ Competitor-aware GEO cannot be tested in isolation A 27 August preprint argues that GEO tactics cannot be evaluated in isolation because their effectiveness changes as competitors adopt similar optimizations. Once everyone writes citation-friendly pages, that advantage erodes. Test relative differentiation versus competitors, not compliance with generic GEO checklists.

๐Ÿ›’ Recommended and cited are different battles Sheryl Commerce tested 60 buying categories across Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. Of 1,851 cited sources, only 2.8% were brand-owned pages. Even when the brand was recommended, its own site received the citation only 31% of the time. Earned media belongs in front of owned. Measure brand recommendation and citation ownership separately, and invest in review, editorial, and analyst ecosystems.

๐Ÿ’ผ LinkedIn is an earned knowledge surface Organic KPI found LinkedIn in 23 of 100 professional Google AI Mode answers versus 4 for ChatGPT (25-28 August). Semrush, across 325,000 prompts, found LinkedIn in 11% of AI responses. LinkedIn is not merely a social channel. We repurpose this podcast into GEOforge Daily LinkedIn articles so each piece can stand alone as a citation. Structure subject-matter-expert and executive posts as factual, quotable B2B content.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Particle Radar made podcasts machine-searchable On 25 August, TechCrunch reported that Particle launched Radar, indexing and transcribing more than 130,000 podcasts and about 20,000 new episodes a day, queryable via API and MCP by AI agents. Paris tested it that morning: name search, keyword search, the line in the script. He called it probably the most important story of the day. Treat podcasting as GEO: expert statements, proprietary numbers, clear category positioning, because episodes now have a longer machine-searchable life. That is why we publish show notes and transcripts on the website after every episode.

๐Ÿ“„ SERP API markdown is search data for machines On 27 August, SERP API added markdown output across 100-plus search APIs, claiming roughly 50% lower token usage on average and up to 90% on some APIs versus equivalent structured data. Search data is being packaged for machines rather than humans. The web is splitting: a web for humans where UX matters, and a web for AI agents where efficient data transfer matters.

๐Ÿ“Š Scrapy's AI visibility beta is another dashboard commodity Scrapy introduced an AI visibility beta on 26 August, then added citation exports, source inspection, country language prompts, and prompt suggestions through 29 August. A standalone AI visibility dashboard is becoming a commodity inside broader SEO and GEO platforms. Charge for diagnosis and execution, not another share-of-voice chart. GEOforge's content and outreach work sits on that execution side.

โš–๏ธ Folha de Sรฃo Paulo is suing Perplexity Folha de Sรฃo Paulo is suing Perplexity, alleging unauthorized scraping, copyright infringement, and circumvention of its paywall, including subscriber-only material. It is seeking damages and an injunction. The allegations have not been adjudicated. Major music labels have also sued Anthropic over copyright. An AI engine's usable source universe is partly a legal and licensing question. Diversify citation strategies. Do not assume every publisher stays equally retrievable by every model.

๐Ÿงช Ahrefs anti-slop, GEOforge RAG Ahrefs says every article it publishes now uses AI, but the workflow requires human decisions before drafting, evidence gates, proprietary source-of-truth material, and named editorial ownership. Its pipeline could create articles in 6 to 12 minutes. It rejects scaling output just because it can. The advantage is more evidence per piece, not more word count. The GEOforge parallel is BaseForge, the RAG knowledge-base module that chunks proprietary brand knowledge, scores it for information gain, and grounds ContentForge so we produce higher-information-gain content instead of volume.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If Particle Radar is transcribing 20,000 new episodes a day, is an untranscribed podcast still a GEO channel?

  • OpenAI Just Turned Websites Into AI Agent Tools

Welcome to Episode 10 of The GEO Show, where we break down the biggest developments in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), AI search, and the rapidly changing world of SEO.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, runs through six stories reshaping AI search this week, starting with OpenAI's new WebMCP standard, which lets ChatGPT take structured actions directly on a website instead of clicking and scrolling like a human.

    In this episode:

๐Ÿค– OpenAI turns websites into agent-operable interfaces with WebMCP ChatGPT's desktop browser now supports site tools built on WebMCP, an experimental proposed standard that lets websites expose structured actions directly to AI agents instead of forcing them to navigate by clicking and typing. OpenAI is running a WebMCP Developer Challenge, and supported sites can let agents search, edit, and complete tasks directly. The web is acquiring a new optimization surface: not just can AI find you, but can AI use you, and agent readiness now belongs in every technical GEO and SEO audit.

๐Ÿ“Š A 107-million-answer study says owned websites barely register as IT services citation sources Trendos analyzed 107 million AI answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Among top citation sources for IT and solution services, 51% were community and UGC sources, 47% were independent editorial references, and just 2% were brand-owned websites. Frequently cited B2B sources included G2, Gartner, Clutch, GoodFirms, SourceForge, and Slashdot. For B2B technology, GEO is increasingly an off-site authority problem: the win often isn't publishing everything on your own site, it's pitching your information gain to the higher-authority publications already winning the citations.

๐Ÿ“ˆ First-party Google data shows AI visibility is extremely concentrated A 99-day Search Console analysis of an established information site recorded 365,994 Google Generative AI impressions across 136 URLs, and just 14 of those pages generated roughly 81% of page-level AI impressions. It's the SEO world's 90/10 rule showing up again in GEO: a small minority of your pages will carry an outsized share of your AI visibility, and the job is to identify those pages and replicate what's working about them.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Reddit dominates 83.9% of Google's discussions and forums results Ahrefs analyzed 145 million US Google results and found discussion and forum results appeared in 11.7% of them, with Reddit showing up in 83.9% of that feature globally, followed by Facebook and Quora at a distance. Longer, informational queries were especially likely to trigger discussion results. Reddit isn't just a big player in UGC citations, it functions like the Google of the forum landscape itself.

๐ŸŽฏ ChatGPT sometimes targets individual subreddits before retrieval A captured ChatGPT search explicitly targeted a subreddit, retrieved 48 Reddit threads among 71 results, and gave Reddit 6 of 8 citations. Four days earlier, another query retrieved 84 Reddit pages and cited none of them. Reddit's recent aggregate citation decline doesn't mean Reddit is off: source selection depends heavily on the underlying buyer question, so track citation share within your own category rather than assuming a blanket trend.

๐Ÿข Frost & Sullivan formally enters the GEO advisory market Frost & Sullivan launched an AI brand equity and market presence advisory service using Optivara's GEO platform, benchmarking brands against competitors, analyzing how AI represents them through the funnel, and adding analyst interpretation on top. Raw share-of-voice monitoring is becoming table stakes rather than a premium feature. Real differentiation now comes from vertical expertise, proprietary brand knowledge, implementation, and above all, pipeline impact: asking customers how they heard about you and tracking that back to the sales pipeline.

  • 97% of Websites Are Invisible to AI Agents

Welcome to Episode 9 of The GEO Show, where we break down the biggest developments in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), AI search, and the rapidly changing world of SEO.

In this episode, Paris Childress, founder of Hop AI and co-founder of GEOforge, runs through seven stories reshaping AI search this week, starting with a new BrightEdge product that found 97% of the top 20,000 websites it analyzed aren't built for AI agents at all.

    In this episode:

๐ŸŒ Global GEO performance is a misleading KPI Profound's Summer 2026 Index analyzed 19.6 billion real user conversations and found that in 80% of industries with cross-market data, at least one European market had a number-one brand that had never ranked first in the US. Country-specific domains accounted for 46-59% of citations where a new regional leader emerged. International SaaS and cybersecurity companies should build country- and language-specific prompt sets, earned media strategies, and citation benchmarks per market, rather than assuming US visibility travels.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ BrightEdge launches an agent-optimization layer at the CDN level BrightEdge's new Agent Edge product detects AI agent requests and serves reduced, machine-oriented content instead of a full human-facing page. BrightEdge found that 97% of the top 20,000 websites it analyzed weren't serving any optimized machine format. Early customer Arm cut its payload size by about 90%, while Bloomfire reported a 30% lift in direct AI referrals. The market is moving from "can the model cite us" to "can the agent efficiently interact with us," and that shift is coming for e-commerce first, where agents will soon be shopping on behalf of their users.

๐ŸŽฅ A creative agency partners directly with an AI visibility platform on creator content Profound partnered with creative agency Influencer on August 26 to connect creator content and conversations directly with AI recommendation visibility. Creator marketing, digital PR, and GEO are converging into one authority-building discipline. For B2B brands pursuing GEO, that means mapping the YouTubers, LinkedIn experts, podcasters, and analysts AI engines are already referencing and integrating them into earned-authority campaigns.

๐Ÿ“š Listicles are down, but nowhere near dead Kevin Indig's analysis of 60,000 US Google queries and 5.32 million results, published on Search Engine Land, found listicles still appear in the top 10 for about 55% of queries, even as their share of the number-one position fell roughly 4 percentage points since January. 62% of vendor-authored listicles gained organic traffic, with a median gain of 38%. Google appears to be pruning weaker listicles, not banning the format: keep comparison content only where you can back it with real methodology, testing, and differentiated evidence.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Top-of-funnel content is holding up in cybersecurity and SaaS A Search Engine Land analysis comparing traffic across 30 large cybersecurity and SaaS publishers found every sampled domain improved its top-of-funnel traffic year over year, while finance, healthcare, legal, and consumer tech publishers all declined. AI doesn't eliminate informational content equally across categories; complex, fast-changing B2B subjects still reward research depth that one generated answer can't fully satisfy.

๐Ÿค– Claude and Claude Code behave like two different search engines Profound's research, covering between roughly 24,000 and 135,000 responses, found that with web search enabled, Claude searched the web in 93% of its responses versus just 13% for Claude Code, and the two products overlap on only 20% of mentioned brands. Nearly three-quarters of Claude Code's agent traffic went to documentation, informational, and pricing pages, versus just 5% for Claude. Developer-focused SaaS and cybersecurity products need a rich documentation layer with precise, machine-retrievable compatibility, pricing, API, and deployment facts.

โš ๏ธ Did Google's August spam update target AI-generated content? Search Engine Journal documented multiple reports of mass-generated AI sites losing visibility during Google's August spam update, but Google hasn't confirmed the update specifically targeted AI content, and its policy remains technology-neutral: AI content is allowed, but creating many low-value pages primarily to manipulate rankings is scaled content abuse. The risk was never using AI. It's industrialized commodity publishing with no real information value behind it.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Question: If an AI agent showed up at your site right now, could it actually get anything done, or would it just get a bloated page it can barely read?
