The Gervais Podcast

Hello, today I talk about the Lions yet again and how they at least tried to make a run for the Super Bowl but would fall flat in 1982 in the playoffs by the Former Washington Redskins and in 1983 by the 49ers. Also, running back Billy Sims would suffer a career-ending knee injury in 1984 but there is hope because a coach would get them back on the right track was hired as interim head coach in 1988. Wayne Fontes would ultimately steer the ship in the right direction in the 1990s. Also, another Hall of Fame running back by the name of Barry Sanders would be the face of the franchise in the 90s. But that episode and topic is for another day thank you for the amazing support on the podcast we are almost at 700 downloads on this podcast and next month will be the 4-year anniversary of my starting the podcast. Thank you so much for the amazing support

Well, the day has finally come to let you know about the new episode of the Detroit Lions. Also, if you didn't guess Marvin Gaye trying to join the team that is ok cause most fans don't know that. But also we will be talking about how the new NFL/AFL merger didn't really help Detroit and how Detroit never really reached the heights it would later in the 90s but come back on Thursday as I talk about the 80s Detroit Lions. Also, don't forget tomorrow April 4 at 5 pm Central Standard Time on YouTube I will be interviewing the legendary Sandy Johnson who Played Judith Myers in the original 1978 classic Halloween. I'll be asking all the questions you the fans have so hopefully you come and watch it live on youtube.

Hello everyone, today I talk about the Lions in the 1960s I'm sure a lot of fans expected them to go back to championship games but they didn't. The 1960s are almost considered a lost era for the Lions as they built a defense considered by some as the defense of the 60s. But they did manage to go to some playoff bowls or the loser bowls as Packers head coach Vince Lombardi once called them. Ultimately the 60s will always stand as a what-if era for the Lions like, what if they built a well-rounded team? What if the Lions kept Bobby Layne would they have gone to more championships? Who knows but join me on Monday as I talk about the 70s and 80s mediocre reign of the Lions also they would have a famous Motown singer try to make the team after the death of their duet partner. Plus, on Monday I will be also hyping up the interview of a lifetime for me by interviewing Sandy Johnson who played Judith Myers in the original 1978 film Halloween.

Hello, today I talk about how the Lions got through the first struggles to build a team for the ages in the 50s. But by the time the 50s were over, they would trade Bobby Layne who would later "curse" the team for 50 years. I also talk about the "curse" and how I feel it was pointless to blame that for the failures to come in the later decades.

Hello, today I talk about the classic 1971 film Vanishing Point. The movie that made people fall in love with a car which would lead to others following suit when they saw their favorite car in a movie. The movie stars Barry Newman who was an unknown actor at the time playing Kowalski. Kowalski is a car delivery driver who must make a delivery of a white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T to San Francisco, California by Monday. Kowalski who takes uppers to stay awake to make the trip must evade the cops and he does right up to the stunning ending which has fooled fans for years since the film was released. I hope you enjoy my review of this great classic which has almost faded away with time.

Hello, today I pay tribute to the Legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach Bud Grant who passed away on March 11th, 2023 at the age of 95. Bud Grant was a very stoic and wise head coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 1967,  he became the second head coach in Minnesota Vikings franchise history. Where he guided them to four Superbowl appearances which they lost. He also helped the Vikings become contenders in 1968 when they played in their first-ever playoff game a loss to the Baltimore Colts. In 1969 the Vikings made it all the way to Superbowl 4 losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-7. Bud Grant would retire as the Vikings head coach in 1983 but would come back in 1985 for one more season after the disastrous Les Steckel 3-13 record in 1984. Grant led the 85 Vikings to a respectable 7-9 record and retired again after the season. He was elected to the Canadian football hall of fame in 1983 and the NFL hall of fame in 1994. He will be missed by all his players, the fans, and his family. We here at the Steven Gervais and Friends Podcast wish to offer our condolences to his family and say rest easy coach we'll miss you and thank you.

Hello everyone, today I talk about the sequel to the Born Losers called Billy Jack. In it, Billy Jack must protect a freedom school from opposition from corrupt thugs. While Billy tries to also remain free of violence it doesn't last long as his friends the school children are attacked and degraded by the thugs. Later in the climax of the movie, we see Billy Jack get into a showdown with the police but his peaceful surrender closes the movie and sets the stage for the controversial The Trail of Billy Jack. Thank you for the amazing support you show not only to this podcast but the other podcasts on the Deluxe Edition Network. Hello, today I talk about the 1967 outlaw biker film The Born Losers which introduced the audience to the character of Billy Jack. This movie would change the landscape of how independent filmmaking was done. Tom Laughlin stars as Billy Jack plus he wrote and directed the film. In this movie, Billy Jack who looks down on society must protect a rape victim from further attacks by a motorcycle club and he must fight them alone for no one else has the guts to stand up to the biker gang. This would spawn three more movies in the Billy Jack saga. Hopefully, you enjoy my review of The Born Losers. Thank you for the amazing support and also thank you for allowing me to continue what I love doing.
