In this opener to season 4, I share what's been going on that has created a total mind shift for me in how I have been living my life.
Losing both my parents before I turned 32 has really changed my life mentally and what I used to do and how I thought I would have to show up.
Living for the approval of someone else will always leave you lacking but living for yourself will be the greatest shift you can possibly make.
Creating your financial goals for the next year.
I have been making dream boards of all types for years now and every year since I started them in 2015 I have been putting various money-related goals. Whether that was to buy a certain thing, go on a certain trip, and then of course there was my long-term goal of getting debt-free. I put debt-free on my dream board for 3 years without truly taking any action toward it at all, it was just some idea that I had that sounded cool and would be nice to achieve. I had been wanting to be debt-free since I was 19 and already drowning in my first credit card and realizing how much I was going to have to take out in student loans over the next few years. So when I graduated and started getting bills for those loans I wanted to be debt-free back then.
But I had no plan for how to go about doing that so I just kept going right along in life assuming I would never reach a debt-free life, I would never be able to do the things I wanted to do because that just wasn’t possible for me at that point.
Do you find yourself thinking things like that when you look at your current finances verse where you want them to go?
What would reaching your goals look like?
What would it feel like?
How can you reverse engineer your goals to make them happen?

I spent an ENTIRE week off of social media. I regained nearly 40 hours of my life back from mindless scrolling, pointless comment fights, and obsessive checking of notifications. Taking the week off gave me time to focus on what actually matters, my job, knitting, sleeping regularly, reading more of my Bible, helping lead one of my book groups, and also reading a lot more. A week off felt amazing after the anxiety to check things all day every day wore off around day 3.
Have you ever done a social media fast or break? It's a great time.

Financial Freedom
What does that even look like for YOU?
When you think about that does it bring up ideas of being able to buy whatever you want?
Does it call to mind lavish weeks of vacation and luxury travel?
Or is it simply being able to work minimal amounts of hours and be fully present in your family?
Financial freedom means at its best whatever you want it to mean.
There is no one size fits all for freedom because the ultimate goal is to have opportunities and options to be able to do the best for you and for those you love in your life.
Money is helpful but it is not the end all be all in our lives.
We have one life.
Make it fit you.

When we are using a credit card we know at that moment it is both our money but we also treat it differently because we aren’t going to be truly paying for it at the moment. We are paying for it later on and byt removing the instantaneous nature of paying for something in cash feels more difficult than swiping a credit card, signing your name and getting a new bill in a couple of weeks. Credit cards encourage of to spend more, more quickly carelessly and more forgetfully than we usually would if we are using cash or when we are using our debit cards knowing the money will be immediately removed from our bank account.
