Chapter Twenty-Four: "The low murmur of harmonizing voices drew Denny into consciousness. His head throbbed, a dull ache emanating from the spot on the back of his skull where he’d been struck, and he didn’t want to open his eyes at first, fearing that any light might make the pain worse, but as he cracked his eyelids, he saw that illumination was not only minimal, but it was coming from only a single source.
The dregs of an afternoon sun stretched across the scarred concrete floor to where Denny lay crumpled against a plywood wall."

Chapter Twenty-Three: "Despite the rain pounding the windows and roof, the house suddenly felt full of life. Pulsing with hope. Kate awoke with a celebratory feeling, like it was Christmas morning.
Both of her blonde labradors, Roxy and Echo, were sitting by the closed bedroom door, tails swishing on the hardwood. They too, seemed to be feeling the vibrance and excitement that lay just beyond.
And then it was coming inside to greet them."

Chapter Twenty-Two: "Before he slid he key into the lock, Denny could feel that something had changed. He’d only been gone for an hour. Two, max. But he could sense the shift. In the energy, the atmosphere.
Slender copper key pinched between thumb and forefinger, inches from the deadbolt, plastic motel diamond keychain swinging under his palm like a divining crystal, Denny stared at the fading paint on the carport door, and felt frozen.
Behind him, the rain began sheeting down, seeming to close off an escape back to the safety of his vehicle."

Chapter Twenty-One: "Getting out isn’t always as simple as we would like it to be. There are plenty of reasons why the “perfect place” might suddenly change into the space you desperately want to escape. A sudden infestation of unsavory insects or rodents. New neighbors that either like to blast K-pop until dawn, or who cover their windows with tin foil to mask the drug making operation inside. Maybe a new addition to the family brings the home to capacity.
Or, maybe its haunted.
You’ve got a restless spirit, or a poltergeist, hell, a demon, that’s making life unbearable. You can’t sleep, or eat. You can’t remember why you fell in love with the house in the first place. All that matters, is getting out."

Chapter Twenty: "If you’ve been following this story, and clicked into this episode, you’ll notice how much shorter the duration is. Most chapters, with their intros, run around the half hour mark. But don’t let the truncated time fool you. A shorter chapter does not mean it is any less important.
In fact, this little guy has a lot to say. This is the season finale."

Chapter Nineteen: "Often, the problems in relationships are systemic, they fester and spread, infecting all decisions and forged memories. One wants children, while the other runs from the conversation. One wants to discover life living in the country, while the other can’t loosen their grip on city life. What about religion, politics? What happens when one partner has faith and the other simply can’t believe? What happens when one partner’s candidate wins the bid, while the other must concede?
Resentments build. Hurt feelings abound. Fissures become cracks. Cracks become caverns. When the schism grows wide enough, do you give up, throw in the towel, and bid some you once loved adieu? Do you say goodbye?
Or do you start building a bridge?"

Chapter Eighteen: "Most of the time, when we lose items of value, we panic. We imagine scenarios where undesirables are flipping through the photos on our phones, or going on shopping sprees with out little plastic rectangles, but generally, we come out unscathed. If we re lucky, we find the phone or sets of keys between couch cushions. Under the driver’s seat.
And further, most often we have passwords and security questions, failsafes to repel and discourage any unsavory activity, and most of these things are replaceable. Keys can be recut, credit cards can be cancelled and reissued, phones can be replaced, often with newer, faster models. For lack of a better phrase, it isn’t the end of the world.
But what about pieces of your life that are irreplaceable? There are one of a kind souvenirs, brutal losses that take time to get over, but I’m referring to living beings. Those that breathe. And bleed."

Chapter Seventeen: "Without the safety of a group, we are, in essence, forced to contemplate our mortality alone. In doing so, we have to explore our own courage, our own strength. We date, we marry, we form friendships often so we don’t have to wait for dawn alone.
So, what happens when your support system is taken away? What happens when you are forced to go it alone?
Will the minutes crawl? Will whatever lurks in the darkness sniff out your vulnerability? Do you pray for sunrise?"

Chapter Sixteen: "“I tried just laying there with my eyes closed. Even counted sheep for awhile. Can you believe that? Just pictured them hopping over a white fence, but after awhile each one started looking sicker. Patches of wool missing, frail. Others had broken limbs or were missing them all together.
They stopped jumping and watched me through the fence, like they were waiting. And I knew what they were waiting for—for me to come and put them all down. I couldn’t help it. Someone was inserting these images in my mind.
The harder I fought, the worse they got. More vivid. So, I slipped outside."
