Stowe Dailey Shockey is a gifted singer and songwriter, having written music with Garth Brooks, Shenandoah (she had the title cut on their album Long Time Comin’) and many others in the Nashville music community.

Stowe is a survivor of emotional and sexual abuse and has worked hard for much of her life to move beyond the negative voices and scars of her younger years. Stowe met her husband, Peter Shockey in 1989. Journey of Light, Stories of Dawn After Darkness, co-written with her husband Peter, chronicles her childhood and the lessons she learned from taking the time to tell her story.

Stowe was diagnosed with Stage III rectal cancer in April 2008. Originally, she planned to heal herself using methods outside of allopathic medicine. Eventually though, she had to choose between dying and having surgery. After much consideration and prayer, she chose to have a life-saving colostomy surgery.

Stowe and Peter got to know Calvin LeHew in 2009 and were inspired by his life and philosophy. Calvin was anxious to share what he had learned over his lifetime and the Shockeys were excited to tell his story, both through book and film. Stowe was dealing with cancer at the time and Calvin had recently been through cancer himself so he was a great encouragement to her.

As Stowe began writing her new book, Flying High, she figured Calvin would just tell his story. But as she was in the process of healing from cancer and learning so much from him, she decided to introduce her own story in between his. Her main takeaway from Calvin’s life was that he had done so much despite having fear. In other words, he pushed through it to accomplish his goals. By studying books he read and following his example Stowe was able to, not only pursue her dreams, but also find her health again.

Clients and their Therapist work as a team using a variety of present-focused treatment methods; Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy are among the methods employed to assist Clients in reaching their personal and treatment goals. Time spent in the treatment process varies among Clients; however, many Clients find that they are able to meet their personal and treatment goals in as few as 8 to 10 sessions.
