The Bible teaches us that we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it, so why do we spend so much of our time worrying about having enough and  gathering 'stuff?' John Wesley's rule of life was to save all he could and give all he could. Jesus will challenge us in this passage to consider our relationship with money, and the responsibilities of being a good steward who seeks first the kingdom of God, and warns us of the dangers of wanting more with no thought of others, through the parable of the rich farmer.

Pastor Mike Weaver explores Jesus’ warning, in Luke 12:1–7, to His disciples to be on 'guard against hypocrisy—the “yeast of the Pharisees”—and reflects on the danger of presenting one image outwardly while hiding the truth of our lives from others, ourselves, and God.

The passage reminds us that nothing is hidden from God, yet this is not only a warning but also an invitation to live honestly before Him. Jesus calls His people not to fear the judgement or opinions of others, but to have a reverent fear of God, trusting both His authority and His grace. Because Christ has died for us, Christian's can rest in the assurance that we are known, valued, and covered by His righteousness.

'He who is not with me is against me' said Jesus to a crowd who were divided over who he was. Some tried to slander him, others wanted more evidence more proof, some received him with awe.

Its no different today, people respond to the power and presence of God and his invitation to come in different ways. Some sit on the fence to see how it plays out neither convinced nor committing, cautiously weighing things up and are perhaps shocked to hear 'if you are not with me, you are against me.'
