This week’s sermon, Return & Rejoicing, reflects on Luke 10:17–24, where the seventy-two return to Jesus full of joy after being sent out in His name. As we explore their return, we’re reminded that the true source of Christian joy is not success, strength, or even spiritual victory, but the grace of belonging to Christ, knowing that the names of Christ’s followers are written in heaven. On Pentecost Sunday, this message calls us to go and serve in the power of the Holy Spirit, remembering it is essential to return again and again to Jesus to connect and renew in His strength.

Pastor Mike Weaver brings a message exploring what it means for Christians to grow together through God’s Word. Beginning with Proverbs 27:17 (“iron sharpens iron”), the sermon highlights how God shapes our character as we face one another in accountable friendship and shared discipleship. Exploring the Acts 2 church as a right model for the church today, Pastor Mike suggests the call to the church today is the same devotion to apostolic teaching (doctrine), deep fellowship, shared meals and communion, and persistent prayer—marked by generosity, so meeting real needs without compulsion.

The sermon closes with Hebrews 10:24–25 and a call not to neglect gathering, but to encourage one another toward love and good works for the glory of the Kingdom of God.

This week, the Revd. Thembeka Pitoyi, minister of Thomas Gillespie Memorial Presbyterian Church, Mount Ayliff, South Africa joins us in worship at GMC. The church Thembeka shepherds was founded by Rev. Peter L Hunter, sent from Gillespie United Presbyterian Church (now GMC) in 1889 on request of the Local Chief Jojo in the Western Cape. And now 137 years later the word of God is brought back from South Africa for our ears in Dunfermline and across Scotland. Our worship service was streamed across our two churches, two nations, two continents, yet we were and are, one body of Christ, worshipping in one faith to our One Lord and God.

Revd. Thembeka brought a powerful word from Isaiah 49.v6 – “I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” That we, the church must be a light to those who do not know the Lord, and by us this means the whole priesthood of the church, which is not solely the ministers of God’s word, but the people of God. It is you, the people of God who know Jesus, that are a light to the world. Go now and be the light.

Welcome to our Easter Sunday podcast, where Pastor Mike Weaver reflects on the resurrection of Jesus as told in Mark 16. Pastor Mike explores the significance of the empty tomb and the responses of Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome. The sermon delves into the uncertainties surrounding the ending of Mark's Gospel; the profound encounter at the tomb; and the angel's message: "Don’t be alarmed… He is risen from the dead! Now go and tell."

Fear may be the natural reaction when faced with the divine, yet the call to "do not be afraid" is challenged and overcome by the truth of Jesus' resurrection. This victory over sin and death is the foundation of Christian faith, assuring believers of eternal life and encouraging them to share this good news with urgency and conviction.

The episode also draws parallels with other Biblical figures, examines Christ’s command to evangelise, and reminds us that faith comes from hearing and telling the story of Jesus.

Ultimately, we celebrate the greatest news: Jesus, crucified and buried, is risen and lives today. The Lord is risen—he is risen indeed, Hallelujah.
