A powerful story can inspire people, but does it actually empower them?
In this episode of the Gold Coast Podcast, Eric Winegard sits down with Benny Salas, President and CEO of That Coaching Guy, Inc., executive coach, professional speaker, TEDx speaker, and leadership consultant.
Benny explains why storytelling and messaging are not the same thing. A speaker can tell an emotional story and still leave the audience without a clear takeaway. The strongest communicators help people see themselves differently, remember the message, and understand what to do next.
As Benny puts it, inspiration makes people excited about your story. Empowerment makes them excited about their own.
They discuss how to structure a message, eliminate unnecessary words, communicate without relying on cue cards, and transition naturally from one idea to the next. Benny also explains why speakers should focus on recall rather than memorization, and why every major talking point should be strong enough to stand on its own.
The conversation expands into artificial intelligence, personal branding, masculine leadership, emotional safety, fatherhood, purpose and legacy.
Benny shares why he believes public speaking will become even more valuable as AI-generated content becomes more common. Technology may be able to imitate someone’s voice, but it cannot fully reproduce their experience, intuition, energy and ability to read a room.
