In the first segment of this week's show, Holly G, Host and Producer of The Golf Insiders, along with Will Perry, Social Media Expert for The Golf Insiders and Founder and Creative Director at EVVUS, are back in the studio after the Thanksgiving break. The two discuss the big news that Tiger Woods will be participating in the Hero World Challenge. This is Tiger's limited-field event, sanctioned by the PGA, held in the Bahamas.
In this abbreviated Golf Insiders show, the two talk about Tiger's absence and his return to golf after his third back surgery. Holly mentions that golf doesn't have a preseason like many other professional sports for players to test the waters, so Tiger has to use this event and others to get some tournament rounds in and this is a limited field event with no cut.
Will wonders how many more times can Tiger actually make the comeback. Tiger wants to play for another 10 years but will his body hold up? Holly mentions that Tiger is one of the fittest athletes on the planet and if anyone can do it Tiger can.
In 2013 Tiger recorded 5 wins but many fellow Tour players felt that the former World No. 1 player may have come back too soon after his second back surgery.
In the second segment of this week's abbreviated show, Holly G and Will Perry welcome The Golf Channel's Todd Lewis. Todd, Holly and Will talk about Tiger's recent press conference and their outlook for Tiger in this event and the upcoming season.
Todd mentions that he has noticed that Tiger is more revealing and honest in his answers as compared to when he was in his heyday as the most dominant player in golf. Todd mentions that Tiger said that his game was vulnerable after he tried to come back for the Safeway Open.
Will asks Todd could this be Tiger's last return. Todd said that he felt that Tiger wasn't too optimistic after last year's Hero World Challenge and felt that he might not come back.
Todd says that there have been so many players who are 45-years-old and older who are winning on the Tour.
Todd compared Tiger to the great Peyton Manning's career. Before Manning had his neck surgery he was a real gunslinger. After the surgery Manning was more of a game manager but was still able to win the Super Bowl. Todd feels that Tiger will manage his game more and be successful that way now he is in his 40s.
Holly asks Todd if Tiger's kids will provide Dad with incentive to make his comeback and win again?
Todd feels that Woods has lived his life in a fishbowl since he was 3 years old and with the extended time off after this surgery it allowed Tiger to be more of a normal person, be a dad. He knows his identity is that he is a great golfer and in the past he has had conflict between being a great golfer and having time for a normal life. Todd feels with the extended time off Tiger has a balance now in his life.
Todd mentions that 17 of the 18 players in the top 50 in the world and several ranked in the top 10 competing in the Hero World Challenge this week. If Tiger finishes the event 10th place or better, that would be great for him.
Holly asks Todd for his pick for this week's event. He said that Bubba and other players picked the course apart last year and the weather was nice. This year the event is forecasted to be windy so it's hard to pick a winner.
He feels that Justin Rose and Adam Scott live on the course so they know it well,
