Rule 1 is a description of what golf is. A basic dive into what your aim is when playing golf, how you start and finish the game, what a ‘round’ and a ‘course’ is, and in what manner a player must behave. Golf also requires everyone to play by the Rules and call Rules breaches on themselves, that is a big part of what separates golf from most other sports.

You don’t always have to play by the Rules of Golf. However, if you don’t play the Rules, then you’re not playing ‘golf’, but as long as you are respectful of the course and courteous to other players, then go out and have fun with your friends and enjoy hitting a golf ball around. If you do wish to play golf, then you must adhere to the Rules, this enables you to compete on a level playing field, and be able to accurately judge your skill level.
