What would business look like if success included how people thrive and what companies give back? Gitte Madelaire introduces her vision of “survival of the friendliest” and a more human approach to growth. She and Catryn explore the relationship between personal awareness, workplace culture, and business transformation. Even something as simple as a smile can become a starting point for change.
“We have so many talents, all of us, 8 billion on planet Earth, and we shall use them.” - Gitte Madelaire
Author and keynote speaker Gitte Madelaire joins Catryn Becker to explore the ideas behind Energetic Leadership and how energy influences the way we work, lead, and make decisions. Gitte uses the metaphor of walking on one leg to describe an approach to business that prioritizes productivity and action while overlooking intuition and receptivity. She introduces her three-part framework of strategic foresight, personal development, and business transformation, explaining how looking outward at change and inward at ourselves can inform healthier ways of working.
The conversation moves into artificial intelligence, the desire to feel seen, and the value of quiet moments. Catryn shares how silence during her shower creates space for ideas and asks who will become the “early adopters of intuition.” Gitte reflects on the assumptions that initially made her question whether she could write a book, encouraging people to explore their talents and become rebels in their own lives. Together, they consider how purpose and self-trust can reshape the expectations we’ve learned to live by.
The discussion also addresses change within existing workplaces. Catryn expands on “bloom where you’re planted,” pointing out that a seed needs the right conditions to grow. Gitte explains that transformation can begin within an organization, while acknowledging the importance of openness from leadership and the challenges faced by purpose-driven people at every level. Her vision of “survival of the friendliest” brings the conversation back to human connection, contribution, and the small actions that can help create a different culture.

What do you do when the career you built keeps pulling the rug out from under you? After three layoffs in six years, April Paige decided to bet on the talent she had carried since childhood. She shares the realities of rebuilding her fine art business, finding customers, and moving forward without a ready-made support network. Her experience offers an honest look at the courage and persistence it takes to give yourself another chance.
“I’m going to go all in on myself, which is a good bet because I’m a hard worker and I’ll figure it out.” - April Paige
In this episode, fine artist April Paige decided to go all in on the creative work she had previously relegated to a side hustle. Drawing on decades of senior marketing experience, she began rebuilding an art business she had set aside while focusing on her corporate career. April shares the uncertainty of establishing herself in a local market, the difficulty of separating her identity from her former job title, and the conviction that keeps her moving forward.
The conversation explores the creative process, from confronting a blank canvas to loosening the grip of perfectionism. April describes experimenting with unconventional painting tools, using augmented reality to help with composition, and balancing technical skill with the freedom to follow an unexpected direction. She also reflects on the unpredictability of creative flow and how quiet walks, meditation, and learning to be kinder to herself help make space for ideas.
Alongside the joy of painting, April offers a candid look at the practical demands of running a creative business, including social media, sales platforms, administrative work, and mounting subscription costs. She discusses upcoming collections inspired by her Cuban heritage and North Carolina landscapes, while emphasizing the patience and tenacity required to bring meaningful work into the world. Her experience encourages anyone considering a career change to take their interests seriously and recognize that starting again remains possible at any age.
About April Page
Bio - Born in Sarasota, Florida, April Paige carries the vivid inheritance of her Cuban and Spanish roots into every canvas: bold color, deep feeling, and a family lineage of musicians, artists, seamstresses, cigar makers, and storytellers. After more than twenty years as a senior corporate marketer, she returned fully to her first language in 2025, relaunching her fine art practice from Raleigh, North Carolina, where she has lived since 2019.
Working in oil, acrylic, and mixed media, April paints in the space between realism and abstraction. She builds layered, atmospheric grounds, lets the figure dissolve back into the surface, then restores what was lost, so each work holds the tension between clarity and mystery. Her evolving series, including musicians, angels, Asian themes, realism, and abstraction, return to the same questions of joy, empathy, music, culture, and spirit. Her two new series of work, Latin and North Carolina, will be launching at the end of 2026.

What if the job you lost opened the door to work you never believed you could do? Catryn Becker shares how an unexpected firing challenged her identity and set off a period of creative reinvention. Conversations with a trusted friend became a book, and a long-held desire to write became a commitment to learning screenwriting. Her story explores how a painful ending can lead somewhere you could not have planned.
"I don't know what I'm doing but I can figure it out." - Catryn Becker
In this episode, Catryn Becker reflects on two years of professional change and creative discovery, tracing her path from environmental engineering and consulting to coaching, retreats, and an unexpected return to corporate work. Although the steady paycheck offered security, the role proved a poor fit for her entrepreneurial spirit. Being fired challenged her sense of identity and the expectations she had absorbed about being the “good girl” who succeeds by doing what others expect.
With support from her community, Catryn began turning that experience into something useful. Conversations with her friend April Diamond became Life Snacks: Easy Breezy Self Care That You’ll Actually Do, a book built around small, manageable actions. Writing and publishing it helped her question the belief that her abilities belonged only in engineering and technical writing. In hindsight, an experience that had made her doubt her intuition became the catalyst for work she valued.
That growing confidence also helped Catryn pursue screenwriting through UCLA’s Professional Program, leading to completed features, television scripts, and her Celtic fantasy adventure, Of Mists and Gods. She speaks candidly about the energy creative work requires and the limits of her own mental bandwidth. Throughout her reflection, she returns to resourcefulness, the support of others, and the question of what must fall away to make room for a new direction.
