  • #114 Lee Christine | From corporate trainer to full time Best selling crime Author!
Today in The Good Girl Confessional, host Sandy Lowres is chatting to Lee Christine. A bestselling Australian author who is proving that, at 60, it’s never too late to turn lifelong dreams into reality, Lee is the writer of six romantic suspense novels and three alpine-crime novels, including the best-selling and award-winning Charlotte Pass, and best-selling Crackenback.

In the past decade she has firmly cemented herself as one of Australia’s most compelling crime writers. Born and bred in Newcastle, Australia, Lee always hankered to write. During her high school years, she sang and played guitar in a band, playing regular gigs around town – often penning her own songs, something she says is the very essence of storytelling. In her teenage years, Lee joined a soft rock band recording one LP. So enamoured by music, she would also study a male-dominated instrument - the saxophone. Life would lead her to teach, and then into the corporate world. In mid-life Lee made the brave decision to leave her corporate life as a trainer, to start writing novels as a full-time career. Now in her 60's Lee is a successful crime and mystery writer. Her trilogy of crime novels with romantic elements is set in Australia’s iconic Snowy Mountains of NSW, Australia.

Dead Horse Gap was published by Allen and Unwin in February 2022, Crackenback in February 2021, and Charlotte Pass in February 2020. Lee's writing has become known for engaging places and elements she knows as characters - mountain ranges, a ski lift, and mountain huts. Her ability to transport the reader into places she is passionate about is a gift. Charlotte Pass recently won the Australian Romance Readers Association award for Favourite Romantic Suspense in 2020. Lee loves connecting with her readers and has appeared on a panel discussions and live events. The mother of grown children, Lee lives in Newcastle with her husband and her Irish Wheaten Terrier, Honey.
She is currently writing her next book set in Newcastle.

Today we chat about music, writing, the creative soul and how you are never too old to follow your passions and dreams.

  • #108 Hacia Atherton | Disrupting the skilled trades sector
Hacia Atherton is the Founder of Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT), a charity established in 2020 to increase female representation in skilled trades in Australia through work experience, educational training and ongoing support. Hacia hails from a family of skilled tradesmen and has encountered first hand the challenges women experience in this sector after discovering women only account for 3% of trades in Australia. She established EWIT to inspire women to see trades as a viable and lucrative career option and to ignite societal cultural change geared towards creating a supportive environment for these women to thrive.

Hacia is no stranger to overcoming adversity having learned to walk again after a tragic horse riding accident in 2017 left her in a wheelchair for 12 months. She overcame debilitating and chronic pain and the doctors prognosis that she will never walk unaided again to achieve her CPA from her hospital bed, riding 100km twice for charity and running multiple half-marathons.

As a result, Hacia is invited to speak regularly on mental toughness, redefining success and courage with well-known brands such as the CPA, Honda, Ladies in Finance+ Time, Girls with Hammers, League of Extraordinary Women and Deakin University. I

n 2021 Hacia was named in The NYC Journal’s Top 30 Women Disruptors To Look Out For, and the Disruptors Magazine Top 30 Inspiring Women To Look Out For In 2022. She also received the CPA President’s Award for Excellence - Emerging Leader and has been appointed the Deputy Chair of the Emerging Leaders Network.

The charity was established in 2020 after founder Hacia Atherton discovered that women account for only 3% of trades within Australia and only 1 female out of 100 hold a trade apprenticeship. In addition, Australia is approaching the lowest level of apprentice commencements since the late-1990s and the number of females commencing an apprenticeship of any type fell by 12.2% from 2016 to 2020.
