In this text, we see two sisters, Leah and Rachel, who saw their circumstances in life as miserable. No doubt they each wondered, and asked God, "why do things have to be the way they are?" A great contention arose between them, which revealed how far out of line they both were with God's will. God, however, was very patient with them and worked in their lives to reconcile them to His will. At the same time, in spite of their sinful attitudes, God also used these two sisters in key roles in His great plan of redemption as presented throughout the Bible.
