Prayer is a necessary and vital spiritual discipline in the life of a Christian. It's our first response when we suffer and our first response when we sin. Prayer is going to God in need of Him.

Baptism is a command of Jesus that those who have believed by faith in Jesus Christ for the salvation of their sins should be immersed in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as a public display of a new life in Christ and with His people. We baptize believers because we are called to make disciples.

We see a new comparison to consider, this time to Moses instead of angels. Jesus is declared greater than Moses in glory, as the faithful builder of God’s house, those He saves. The portion of Psalm 95 reminds us of the lack of faith the Israelites showed under Moses’ leading while journeying to the Promised Land. Take the time to look at Psalm 95 sometime this week.

We give cheerfully of the financial resources God has given us to for the good of the church and for the glory of God.

We serve others because Christ served us and by serving others, we use the gifts God has given us to serve the church.

We take the Lord's Supper to remember what Christ has done for us in His death and resurrection and to repent of our sins.

We continue to see the comparison of Jesus to angels, and the reinforcement of hearing from God through various sources. The ultimate value of Jesus is revealed in recognizing the significance of His taking on a human form. Make sure you also read through Psalm 8 to gain a deeper appreciation for this passage.

We preach God’s Word to God’s people because the Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to help us know God and the power of the gospel.

Superior to Angels

Unsurprisingly, the rest of this first chapter is full of references to the Old Testament. The Son of God is compared to angels through different scriptures, proving His superiority and authority over them. Take the time to look up and read through all the references to give yourself the same context that the original readers would have understood.

Singing is an outward, worshipful expression of a heart captivated by Christ. We sing because God is glorious and worthy to be praised for His gracious and marvelous deeds.
