Pastor Paul explains how our spiritual worship to God includes the offering of our whole being to him, and allowing him to change us into his image.

Scepticism is rife in the Western world. Even for Christians there can be theological, philosophical and emotional pushback against the idea of a spiritual realm filled with forces of both good and evil. In this realm beyond the physical, natural world, is a supernatural, transcendent realm. According to the Bible this realm is active and intertwined with the material world. It is marked by many things including prophetic activity, dreams and visions, miracles and radically changed lives.

Matt opens our eyes to discern between the forces of this spiritual dimension, between its holy manifestations and its satanic identities. We are encouraged to move in the Spirit of light, bringing truth and freedom into lives and communities dominated by darkness and wickedness. What kind of dad did you have? What kind are you? Performance based? Passive/absent? Punitive/abusive? Permissive? These are negative stereotypes but the Bible describes a positive model of fatherhood with God as the model father.

The story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 is a parable in which the father exhibits grace, love, forgiveness and acceptance, and Roger focuses us on the character of this exemplary father. Yet parenting can also be painful and grievous, complicated and difficult, but Roger encourages us to be patient and prayerful, waiting for God to comfort and bring resolution to the heart-breaking open ends in our life.

Ephesians 6:10-17

Pastor Sue begins by outlining who Christians are fighting against - the father of lies, whereas Jesus is truth.

Then she makes 3 points....

1. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit and it is truth. It dispels fear, anxiety and doubt if we intentionally fight Satan’s lies by trusting God’s truth in his Word, the Bible.

2. It is alive. It is full of living words which are active in conveying Gods voice to us and Sue helps us to practice listening to God through meditating on Psalm 8.

3. The Bible is powerful. As we declare it in praise and worship, spiritual power is released. Jesus quoted the Word of God correctly when, in his desert sojourn, he was faced with the enemy who twisted and mis-applied Gods Word.

So take it, read it, live in victory by it, let God speak to you by it, release God’s power through it.

There is a cosmic battle happening between good and evil. Will you rise up to become a person of power in this battle? There is a devil. Evil exists. Each of us does bad things.

As Sue describes these two kingdoms it is obvious which choice we need to make in order to take our stand in “Team God”!

So rise up, people of God, and let’s see the enemy stopped in his tracks as Jesus has already won the battle. In his name and in the fullness of the Holy Spirit ...... WE CAN.

Temptation has three sources - the world, the flesh and the devil. Jesus faced all of these but remained pure and perfect.

We need to “diagnose “ the source of our struggles so that we can pray appropriately. John is a brilliant commutator and an outstanding teacher of scripture. In this message he clearly exegetes this passage of scripture, helping us to understand and overcome temptation, coming through trials, tests and temptations stronger and more mature in our faith than ever.

The devil offered Jesus things which were not his to offer, counterfeits or shortcuts. John examines how Jesus responded to this during his temptation in the wilderness. He shows how memorising and rightly applying the Word of God can help us to defeat temptation and evil - a key element in our spiritual warfare.
