In Mark 12:29-31 Jesus outlined the two greatest commandments - love God and love others. Loving God with all of our hearts involves our most fundamental faith commitment from the center of our consciousness. An international decision to love God must come from our innermost being. The heart of each person is set on something eg. self, money, success or Jesus. When the heart is set on Jesus a person will obey his commands with a childlike trust.

In this introductory message to the "Love" series, Pastor Sue encourages us to not just hold an academic relationship with God, but to nurture a deep, heart-based love which brings with repentance

The story of Jesus feeding 5000 people, from John chapter 6, is the basis for this message. The focus is on equipping. Jesus equipped Philip, a follower of Jesus, and the other disciples, not by giving them a formula for a miracle, but by encouraging them to connect to Father God personally, then simply doing whatever God tells them to do.

The rest of the chapter builds on this teaching of knowing God intimately, who he is, and what his will is.

Pastor Sue encourages us to be, as the disciples were, confident in knowing Jesus personally so we can be equipped to build God’s kingdom by loving and serving others.

From The introductions in Paul’s letters in the New Testament, John Mark focuses our attention on the words “grace” and “peace”.

Grace - the free spontaneous, unmerited favour of God? Yes. But..... used over 100 times in Paul’s writing, primarily not meaning “unmerited favour”! Biblically it has a range of meanings around “the empowering presence of God in a believer”.

Peace - in spite of our circumstances rather than because of our circumstances, this “peace” is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament idea of “shalom”. It is the way our life was meant to be before the fall.

These things come to us from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. They are a blessing. They carry weight.

As the CEO of “Christians Against Poverty”, Rosie’s testimony is that God is “on the move”. In this message she talks about CAPs vision to release the church to minister to the poor. Using stories of some of CAPs 3000 successful interventions in the lives of people in need, Rosie outlines how Jesus’ mission statement in Luke 4 provides guidance for the church. Our task is to carry on the ministry of Jesus - building Gods kingdom with and among the poor and needy.

Rosie presents us with two challenges involving repentance and love.

Theo outlines the background of Paul the Apostle so that we can understand Matthew 23 - the woes of the Pharisees.

Jesus was clear in his teachings - the “yeast” of the Pharisees and Sadducees will separate a believer from God.

Hypocrisy was at the core of this yeast. Pretending to be something or someone that we’re not. Wearing a mask. Theo calls on us to reflect on our own beliefs and practices to see if we lack authenticity anywhere, rather pointing others towards God’s goodness not our own., embracing life’s challenges and sufferings and abounding in God’s merciful grace.

We all need to see the world and the Word clearly – as God sees them. Pastor Paul unlocks ideas about how God sees the church. Based on the confession of Peter that Jesus is the “Messiah, the Son of the Living God, Paul shows the importance of the church as the bringers of light into a dark world. Jesus chose to reveal that the church would break down even the gates of Hell, in a very significant place - Caesarea Philippi. It was a place of perversion and injustice, and hence also a place of occult presence and practices. Find out how this place was the perfect spot for Jesus to announce the power and authority of who he was and who the church would become.
