The Great Search: 5.5mm / 2.1mm DC Power Jack

Listen Later

For our new Metro RP2040 design, we're making sure that the board can be powered by either USB Type C 5V, or DC wall adapters. While it's common to have 5V USB power almost everywhere, DC power is still useful for when you want 12V to also drive a motor or LED strip. In such cases, we'll use a 5.5 / 2.1mm DC jack to allow the most-common-sized plugs to work.
These jacks come in a few common configurations, and have different power ratings and usage cases - even though they all look the same! We'll find a few good options and chat about what to look out for.
