The Green Light

This week, we watched the ‘80s slasher cult classic Sleepaway Camp and the new film from A24 based on a viral Twitter thread, Zola! Surprisingly, these very different films have one major thing in common. Thanks for listening!

Welcome back for season 4! This week, we watched the movie about the beach that makes you old and a new movie about a classic G.I. Joe, Snake Eyes. Yes, we know these are both new movies, but one of them is Old! (See what we did there?) Thanks for listening!

This week, we watched two horror movies: the pupster (puppet monster) cult classic Ghoulies and the long-awaited A Quiet Place: Part II. We’re talking all about why you should see A Quiet Place: Part II in theaters and what Ghoulies could’ve done to be, well, better, and compete with its pupster 80s rival, Gremlins. Thanks for listening!

This week, we watched the 80s cult classic Escape from New York and the brand new Pixar animated feature Luca! One’s a gritty sci-fi action movie set in dystopian New York City (with a Missouri essence), and one’s a whimsical fantasy film set on the Italian Riviera. You’ll never guess which one’s which. ;)

This week, we’re talking about a Pride Month classic, Brokeback Mountain, and the brand-new hit movie musical adaptation, In the Heights! We’re talking about how the former holds up 16 years later and how the latter holds up to the 2008 Broadway musical. Enjoy!

Our script of the month is: Hive by Jaycee Morgan! It’s a short horror script VERY loosely based on our writer’s (dad’s) real life experience. We also talk about our favorite horror villains, our favorite types of scares, and airtight Volkswagens.

Detours: Norse Mythology (Neil Gaiman), Predator (Hulu)

This week, we watched the Mel Brooks classic Young Frankenstein, based on the classic 1931 film Frankenstein and the even more classic novel, and the brand new Oscar-sweeping film Nomadland. A rousing comedy paired with a grounded film based on many true stories. We both fooled each other with our two truths and a lie this week, but the real question is... will we fool you? Only one way to find out!

This week, we watched the 2020 horror movie Spree and the 2018 horror movie No Escape Room… big week for the genre! But that’s not all they have in common- both of these movies were fairly small budget projects, and only one of them really felt like it. Both of these movies also aren’t that well-known! While Spree has some decently big stars (and some very famous producers, at least in the hip hop world), it hasn’t been all over Twitter as one may expect. It’s about a Spree driver (like Uber or Lyft) who starts murdering riders to go viral. Thankfully, most of them are jerks. No Escape Room is pretty self-explanatory. You’re not really meant to escape this game. Thanks for listening!
