On the night of January 23 rd , 1977 – and for eight consecutive nights after – a TV mini-series based on the number 1 selling African American novel of all time – Roots – aired on ABC.

With the Senate currently spilt 10-10 and a Republican missing during consideration of Garvin - Democrats had no way to reach the 11 votes needed to confirm Garvin – leaving him in limbo. Carney says he’ll try again in March after the break for budget hearings --- and a special election

“It’s good to know another language, so you don’t have to speak English all the time,” 6-year-old Emma Bonis says. “It’s important to communicate with the Chinese people,” adds 8-year-old Jordana Risi. “If I know Chinese, I’ll know what they’re saying.” Emma, a first-grader, and Jordana, a second-grader, attend John R. Downes Elementary School in Newark, one of the first schools in the state to participate in the World Language Expansion Initiative announced in 2011 by former Gov. Jack Markell.

A ship that sailed to the beaches of Iwo Jima during World War II and rescued seven people during one of the world’s largest-ever recorded storms will soon sit at the bottom of the Atlantic, a couple dozen miles off the coast of Delaware and Maryland.

Delaware is one of only six states (including New Hampshire, West Virginia, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois) using the Affordable Care Act’s state-partnership model to offer Obamacare health insurance coverage. That could be good news for Delawareans if the ACA is repealed.

Gov. John Carney (D) and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long (D) took their respective oaths of office on the steps of Legislative Hall Tuesday morning, the first new administration in Delaware in nearly a decade.
